"Explore the Scandinavian wilderness on foot on this week-long walking adventure."
Embark on an expedition through the forests of the Fulufjellet National park, on a walking safari tour that will take you into a true Nordic wilderness. The backdrop for your travels will be a truly rugged landscape, skirted with mountains, glaciers and pine trees. Your accommodation – wild camping, with only the wall of your tent between you and the wild creatures that inhabit these forests. You'll have a large tent, with three rooms and a wood-burning stove. You'll also have a portable toilet and shower available...plenty of home comforts! During your week-long stay on the Norway/Sweden border, you will experience a safari like no other. All essentials will be provided, including transport from and to the airport, tents, portable toilet, portable shower, food and solar panels to charge your cameras and mobiles.
Your trip will consist of daily treks on foot to discover some of the most magnificent wildlife that Europe has to offer. From tiny finches to gargantuan elk, the animals found here are diverse and astounding. Be prepared to keep your eyes peeled though as many of the national park's residents are elusive and difficult to spot. Along the way, there is time to stop off by the pristine Ljoera River for a swim, as well as fantastic evening stargazing opportunities. As a paid extra, you may even have the chance to saddle up and trek across the park on horseback. Prepare yourself for an unforgettable wild camping trip!
As your tour will predominantly take place camping in the middle of a national park in Norway, it is clear that the carbon footprint is already minimal due to lack of energy consumption. Additionally, several aspects of the tour have been designed to utilise sustainable approaches. One of the most significant sustainable aspects of the tour is the use of solar panels to heat the showers and provide electricity. This is not only essential when camped out in the wilderness but is an efficient use of a renewable energy source.
With regard to waste management, all the rubbish accumulated during the tour will be taken to a recycling centre following your departure. The waste is either directly recycled or used to generate energy, a waste management strategy which is widespread throughout much of Scandinavia. 10% of the annual net income from the tours is given to the Norwegian animal rights charity NOAH, a group responsible for rallies and protests against issues such as the fur trade and animal circuses. As a result, it is chiefly responsible for changing many Norwegians' perceptions regarding animal welfare and environmentalism.
Arrival: You will be transported to the national park before setting up camp. Take some time to settle into your new surroundings and relax ahead of the planned excursions in the coming days.
Trekking: Your days will be structured with three separate walks in the early morning, at midday and in the evening, either side of meal times. The purpose of the walks is simple: try and find as much wildlife as possible. Aside from treks into the forest to uncover Norway’s flora and fauna, there are opportunities to go hiking up the mountains, river swimming and horseback riding. As night falls, spend your evenings together enjoying a group meal, some scintillating stargazing and a chance to engage with Norwegian culture, hearing stories of history and folklore.
Departure: Time to put down your tents and return to civilisation as you will be transferred to the airport to commence your onward travel plans.
