Ladakh, the Jewel of India, is known for its many villages, home to welcoming local people living in traditional ways. These quaint villages are set against the incredible backdrop of Himalayan Vistas: mountain peaks and deep valleys. This tour will begin in Leh and give you a tour of the cultural heritage of the area, then offer you the opportunity to spend time in a rural village, getting to know local people and learning about traditional methods of craft and farming.

During this tour, you will be living with local people and learning how they make the most of their environment in a sustainable way as local people have been doing for centuries. All of the in-country guides are local people, who know the area so you know you will get the insider’s view as well as giving back to the local economy. Fly into Leh, to scenes of the snow-clad Himalayas and the incredible Ladakh valley. Spend your first day acclimatizing to your new surroundings and getting ready for your adventure. You will be staying at high altitudes for the duration of the trip so this is your chance to rest and let your body become accustomed to it.
Today, you will visit the local sights in the city of Leh. Here, you will find the Hall of Fame Museum, the beautiful white-domed Shanti Stupa, and Spituk Gompa perched perilously on its hill, the famous Shey Palace, and more!
Today you will be leaving the comfort of the city for the true Ladakhi experience. En route, you will pass the famous Magnetic Hill, where objects and cars may appear to defy gravity and roll uphill. Take a moment to marvel at the confluence of the Indus and Zanskar rivers. You will stop on the journey at the famous monastery of Alchi and spend some time in this surreal destination. Enjoy the lunar landscape of Ladakh as you wander along the meandering Indus to your homestay village on its banks. Arrive at your homestay to a warm welcome from the local host family. This beautiful village practices organic farming and encourages eco-tourism.
The village is the perfect opportunity for a tourist to learn about traditional methods of farming and agriculture in this remote region. Spend your day in the village learning the delicate methods of cultivating crops organically. Visit the local seed bank and sink your teeth into some delicious organic dried fruit. Dine in a traditional Ladakhi kitchen with a local family.
Spend the day learning about traditional manufacturing, from spinning a yarn of goat wool to local shoemaking, pottery, and woodwork. Learn to cook local dishes on a custom culinary tour.
Next, you will head from the village back to Leh, stopping at Lamayuru on the way to take in the beautiful monastery carved from rock. Spend the night in Leh.
Today you will journey to Pangong Tso Lake for a relaxing day, and visit the high Chang La Pass. Absorb the tranquility of the lake and the surrounding mountains. Stay overnight in Pangong.
Head on from Pangong to the Nubra Valley to admire some of the surreal peaks and valleys of the Himalayas. Visit the beautiful monastery of Diskit and the great Buddha statue which overlooks the valley and sand dunes of Hunder. You will also have a chance here to ride the Bactrian double-humped camel. Spend the night in Nubra
Head back toward Leh, crisscrossing the mountains and absorbing the last glimpses of the stunning landscape. Check in to your room in Leh, then explore the local market and spend some time souvenir shopping.
