Exclusive to Arctic Kingdom:

Walk with polar bears during a unique Arctic photography and polar bear tour. Hobby and professional photographers alike are offered a rare opportunity to photograph one of the world’s most magnificent predator species in their natural habitat at ground level.

The base camp is situated on the remote Arctic tundra of Nunavut, 140 km north of Churchill, Manitoba. Our polar bear safari program will get you as close to polar bears in the wild as possible so that you can literally walk with them in their natural environment.

This adventure begins with a 40-50 minute flight aboard a private, Turbo Otter aircraft from Churchill and north along the west coast of Hudson Bay to our base just south of Arviat, Nunavut. The route follows the exact path polar bears take when they migrate in search of the first sea ice to form on the bay. Rustic, remote, and accessible only by air, the compound of cabins is simple, polar bear proof buildings, surrounded by an electric fence.

Consisting of four guest cabins and a central dining/lounge kitchen cabin with panoramic windows and fireplace, the Polar Bear Cabin complex allows for a maximum of 8 guests, creating a very private and intimate polar bear viewing experience.

Each guest cabin has an entryway for storing camera gear and tripods, as well as a main room featuring two beds, a small laptop computer table, and adequate space for the rest of your gear and clothing. All cabins are heated by propane and powered by a diesel generator from morning to evening for the 110 volt electrical receptacles found in each cabin.

The main cabin room is configured with two twin beds that can be combined to make a king size for couples, and comes complete with linens, duvet, comforter, and pillows. Each cabin has its own ensuite washroom with flushable toilet and a propane heated shower. All meals prepared by a chef while at the cabins are included. Wine is included at dinner.

Ours is a ‘total approach’ to responsible tourism. Everything, from the way we plan and operate our trips to the practices of Arctic Kingdom as a company, is geared toward making a positive impact on the regions we visit. Arctic Kingdom trips are designed to allow a high degree of economic benefit to the local communities; we hire local guides and local drivers, buy local produce (whenever possible), eat local food, and use local services, thus ensuring that as much money as possible is retained within the local economy and the host communities. We are continually reassessing our trips, trying at all times to ensure that they are socially, economically, and environmentally sound.

Day 1

Arrive Winnipeg. Overnight in a hotel near the airport. No meals included. The hotel is adjacent to the airport for convenience.

Day 2

On arrival in Churchill transfer to a private charter aircraft waiting on the tarmac to whisk you away to our Polar Bear Cabin. During the 40-50 min flight, aerial photography is possible. The cabin placement is strategic for reliable polar bear encounters and photography. The cabins are situated in “polar bear alley.” Spend unforgettable moments living with the polar bears, observing and photographing them while they wait for the river and the Hudson Bay coast to freeze.

Day 3-5

The next few days observe polar bears in the wild. The electric fence surrounding the camp is approximately 1.2 meters (4 feet) high with wires spaced to allow you to take unimpeded photographs. Safely led by our Inuit guides, head out on daily hikes outside the perimeter of the camp fence. From time to time, there will be a curious polar bear who approaches us. Following the advice of your guides provides the most authentic, safe and intimate polar bear moments available anywhere on the planet.

Day 6

This morning there will be time for a few more photos before packing and leaving the polar bear cabins behind. Board the charter flight shortly after noon. You will change planes in Churchill for the flight to Winnipeg. Overnight in Winnipeg near the airport.

Day 7

Depart for home from Winnipeg.
