“Live with locals on this trip of a lifetime with Huaorani warriors!”

Have the Amazon Basin at your fingertips as you get to know its locals and way of life. Discover Ecuador’s Yasuni National Park, world famous for its biodiversity. You will canoe rivers and lagoons, surrounded by verdant virgin rainforest, vibrant with life. You will see displays of parrots, toucans, macaws, king fishers, herons flying across the river, as well as curious giant otters who will approach the canoe to have a look. You will set up camp alongside the local Huaorani warriors and they will share with your their ancient knowledge of the forest, and their traditional way of life.

This tour is lead by a team who focus on highlighting the beauty, environmental significance, and astounding cultural diversity of the area. The philosophy of these trips is to focus above all on the beauty of life and how to best protect it. Adventure travelling in this way changes people's perspectives and shows them how important it is to protect our planet.

Day 1

Arrive in Quito for your first day and get to know the city and the country a little. There are no scheduled activities on your first day. Your trip leaders will meet you at your hotel to answer any questions you may have about your upcoming adventures. Depending on what time you arrive, you may have time to explore Quito and the surrounding area. Quito is the largest and best preserved city in the Americas and in 1978 it was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Indeed, this city is utterly fascinating. It is considered the cultural capital of South America as well as the second most important city of the old Inca Empire. Day trips from here include a trip to the equator line, Mindo Cloud forest, Cotopaxi national park, Quilotoa crater lake, Otavalo indian market, Papallacta hot springs, Pululahua inhabitant crater and many more. Ask us if you want help to organise something.

Day 2

Early in the morning, you will leave Quito and take a car to the airport, from where you will take a one hour flight to Bohanamo in the Huaorani territory. Here, you will be welcomed by one of the most remote tribes in the Amazon region. You will organise your campsite and later visit the chief of the community.

Day 3

Your hike into the virgin forest will begin today. The trail will take you to an animal clay lick, where, with luck, you will see wild pigs, howler monkeys, macaws, and jaguar tracks. Along the trail, your guide will also tell you about the medicinal plants that grow in the area and that are a vital part of daily life for the Huaoranies. In the afternoon, you will learn about the arts of blowgun hunting, and then try to catch piranhas in a nearby river. At night, you will return to camp for a well-earned rest.

Day 4

Start the day with a good breakfast, then head out in a motorized canoe, down the Cononaco River. From here, you will head into the forest for a short walk to the incredible lagoon of anacondas. Take a small paddle boat out into the lagoon to try to spot some of these unique snakes. In the afternoon, head back up the river to Bameno for lunch and visit Kempery, the legendary shaman and leader of the Huaoranies. Later, canoe up the river to the Bohanamo Huaorani Community. At night your guide will take you out for a night hike exploration.

Day 5

Today, you will take a hike through the jungle with the local warriors to learn more about their survival skills. Along the way, you will have a chance to see the incredible native flora and fauna. Keep a good eye out for jaguar tracks, as these elegant cats also walk along these trails. In the late afternoon, you will search for caimans.

Day 6

After breakfast, you will take a plane back to Shell, and a car back to Quito. On the way you will have the option to stop in Baños to see the most impressive waterfalls of Ecuador.

Day 7

Say your fond farewells to the team before you head for home, or off on more adventures.
