"From a tiger padding silently by to the vibrant and bustling streets of Delhi, this tour highlights the incredible diversity India has to offer!"
This tour combines cultural highlights with opportunities to see the stunning wildlife that India has to offer, guaranteeing something for everyone. From the bustling streets of India’s capital Delhi to the remarkable plains of the Ranthambore National Park, this once-in-a-lifetime tour gives you the chance to explore the country from a completely unique perspective. Staying in a range of hotels and the Ranthambore Forest Resort promises comfort whilst offering a modern twist, meaning you will be well rested to throw yourself into this incredible adventure. Start off by learning about the history of this beautiful country, and exploring the streets and grand architecture of Delhi, before visiting the world famous Taj Mahal, the jewel in the crown of this tour.
Continue to the Agra Bear Sanctuary, which has been funded to create a refuge for sloth bears that have been rescued from the terrors of the ‘dancing bear’ trade. Take the opportunity to give something back by giving some of your time to the sanctuary as a volunteer. Next, head to the Mathura Elephant Rescue Centre to witness the first chain-free elephants in India and explore the Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary, home to a wide range of migratory bird species. Finally head to the Ranthambore National Park to see if you can spot secretive big cats, (including Bengal tigers and leopards) prowling through their natural habitat.
This trip helps to promote cultural and environmental sustainability in India. On the tour, travellers get the chance to volunteer at bear and elephant sanctuaries, allowing them to connect with nature and to see how effective these sites are in helping animals. With the assistance of ‘International Animal Rescue’, the charity ‘Wildlife SOS’ founded the Bear Sanctuary, which has now become the world’s largest sanctuary for sloth bears. Wildlife SOS also helped to set up the Elephant Sanctuary and both projects aim to help conserve the country’s natural heritage, wildlife and habitats. Additionally, the price of the tour includes donations which are made to both of these locations, helping to support their ongoing work.
Travellers will work with the non-governmental organisation ‘Tiger-Watch’, which supports tiger conservation and many community-based initiatives around the Ranthambore National Park. There is the opportunity to help educate children of the Moghiyas, who were previously declared as a criminal tribe believed to be involved in poaching; now, they are being taught alternative ways to make a living. Furthermore, those living in Dhonk who were previously poachers are now learning how to sell crafts instead. These projects aim to increase understanding of tiger conservation issues and to continue the work by getting local people more involved.
