“Have the luxury holiday of a lifetime at this stunning manor and share your breakfast with gentle giants!”
Giraffe Manor is a place like no other. It is the retreat of Instagram stars, wildlife lovers, couples on romantic escapes, and families on the holiday of a lifetime. Set in 12 acres of exquisite private estate, the manor and outbuildings are now an exclusive boutique hotel.
The hotel retains its 1930’s charm and elegance as one of Nairobi’s most iconic buildings. The charming interior is reminiscent of the building’s original style with refreshing modern touches. Each of the twelve unique rooms is named for a figure of historical significance, or for one of the eponymous giraffes. As such, each room has its own story to tell. Little touches of luxury such as laundry included in the price and handmade Kenyan toiletries in the room make your stay extra special. Some of the rooms even offer the opportunity to feed giraffes from the window.
Of course, feeding the giraffes is the main draw for so many people. Share your breakfast in the beautiful light, and airy dining room. With the windows open, the giraffes will open pop a head in to say hello. These are the wild and endangered Rothschild’s giraffes which live in the manor’s grounds and forest.
During your stay you will have the opportunity to take a guided walk in the sanctuary. You can also organise a trip to the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust, where you can meet baby elephants.
The owners of Giraffe manor are a fantastic group whose focus is sustainability and conservation within Kenya. With cheetah and lion populations in decline in Kenya, big cat protection is a strong focus for the group. They work closely with the Mara Cheetah Project to ensure continued conservation.
Other projects they take part in include a school meal programme, a secondary school scholarship programme, talks to promote health and sexual education for girls, and guest talks by conservationists, among many others.
At Giraffe Manor they believe that it is vital to protect the environment we are enjoying. There are so many little touches designed to make the project more sustainable. The insecticide used in the rooms is a natural pyrethrum based non-aerosol. Every cleaning product used is non-toxic and biodegradable. Resources are sources locally wherever possible and there is a kitchen garden at the lodge for growing salad and vegetables. The lodge will also provide all guests with a reusable metal canteen water bottle and, in doing so, have reduced their plastic waste by 85%.
