Dive into an underwater adventure as you enrol in a four-day internationally certified diving course on the Azores, a mid-Atlantic archipelago. The Azores consists of nine remote volcanic islands floating just hours away from the European mainland and North America. Delve beneath the surface of this largely undiscovered paradise as you learn to scuba dive, discovering richly biodiverse dive sites and an array of marine life in the process. If you’ve always wanted to learn how to dive, gaining the skills needed to be able to discover the ‘world beneath the waves’, then this is an ideal place to start!
The PADI Open Water Diver course is the world’s most popular scuba course, and will teach you the most important principles and procedures of diving. You’ll develop knowledge and understanding of basic principles, before gaining practical experience in confined water as you dive in a swimming pool. You’ll then transfer these skills to the ocean where you’ll conduct open water dives to hone your skills. There’s also an Eco-Diving course that focuses on the removal of waste from the ocean; completing this course will allow you to contribute to a project that is helping to remove rubbish from the Atlantic Ocean. Not only will you take something away from this course (an internationally recognised SCUBA diving certification), you’ll also give something back to nature.

What We Love
International Diving Certification: Learn the fundamental principles and practises of scuba diving with the world’s most popular diving course. You’ll learn to be autonomous and independent, and once you’ve got the skills you’ll be able to explore the beautiful coral reefs and marine habitats for yourself.
Clean the Ocean: Not only will you enrich your own knowledge, but you’ll be able to give something back by helping to remove waste from the ocean and bring it ashore for recycling. Knowing that you’ve helped improve the habitats for marine creatures is truly rewarding.
The Azores: You don’t need to travel to distant lands to have an island adventure – the Azores are just a few hours away from mainland Europe! Very few travellers have discovered this remote archipelago of islands dotted in the Atlantic ocean, so make sure you get there before hoards of tourists do!

What makes this experience sustainable?
ImpacTrip offers unique volunteering trips and tours in Portugal, giving travellers the chance to enjoy unforgettable and responsible trips that combine volunteering with all the best features of a typical guided tour: getting to know the locals, dining at typical restaurants, absorbing Portuguese culture and enjoying exclusive activities. ImpacTrip encourages its travellers to escape from the pull of mass tourism and boring travel agencies and instead discover Portugal in a more responsible and local way, helping to fight social inequality and other hugely important issues by volunteering on local social and environmental projects.
On their Dive Azores tour, travellers get the opportunity to enrich their own knowledge and become internationally certified in SCUBA diving whilst also giving something back to the environment by helping to remove waste from the Ocean, bringing it to land for recycling. ImpacTrip’s mission is to change the way people travel, and to ‘offer different trips that make a difference’. They believe that until you know the local people, you can’t know the place, and therefore help tourists to ‘travel like a local’, offering culturally immersive and authentic experiences of Portugal. Through having a direct positive impact, it is hoped that tourists will come away from their holiday having enjoyed a truly unique and unforgettable experience.
Your first morning of training will focus on familiarising you with the basic procedures and principles of SCUBA diving. You’ll be educated on how underwater pressure can affect the body, choose the correct equipment and learn about procedures needed to plan dives. In the afternoon you’ll gain some practical experience, developing your basic skills in a swimming pool.
In the morning, you’ll do some theoretical work, giving you a good knowledge foundation to take forward. After theory training there will be a small examination to show that you have absorbed the key information. In the afternoon you’ll return to the pool to go through emergency situations and practice skills such as sharing air. In all, you’ll take part in five ‘confined water’ (pool) dives to develop the skills you need for open water diving.
The course continues, and now you’ll get to practice in the ocean. You’ll complete one ocean dive in the morning, and two in the afternoon, giving you the opportunity to hone your skills.
On the final day you’ll complete four open water dives along with your PADI instructor, combining all of the components of the course and embracing in full the underwater adventure!
