“Explore World Heritage sites, wild national parks, and bustling cities!”

It is rare to come across a country with a culture so full of colour and vitality and simultaneously a landscape so verdant and wild. Sri Lanka is breath-taking. This tour is a mélange of the culture, wildlife, and relaxation that the country offers in such abundance. You will visit breathtaking cave temples and relax on Sri Lanka’s tranquil beaches. Enjoy spicy curries, lacey coconut milk pancakes, and famous tea. From steaming, leafy jungle, to sparkling coastline, Sri Lanka truly deserves its nickname: “a jewel in the Indian ocean”.

These tours aim to use resources as wisely as possible in order to provide an incredible experience whilst preserving the environment in which they run. They believe that natural resources, regional communities, tourists, and relevant government organizations are core stakeholders in conservation and the development.

These tours are run by nature-lovers for nature-lovers and aim to best serve both nature and the tourists who can contribute to its protection, and the protection of its diversity as well as to equitable development within and among nations.

Day 1

Arrive at the Bandaranayake International Airport, from where you will be collected and transported to Negambo where you will be staying the night.

Day 2

Your holiday will start with the opportunity to really relax into it. You will spend the day in Negambo, described by Lonely Planet as the perfect introduction to Sri Lanka. It is not a large city but holds plenty of culture. It’s economy is based primarily on its centuries-old fishing tradition however it also produces cinnamon, ceramics, and brass ware. It is also a beach town, meaning you will be able to relax next to the glorious Indian Ocean.

Day 3

On your second full day you will travel to Dambulla, visiting Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage on the way. The orphanage was founded to care and protect the many orphaned unweaned wild elephants found wandering in and near the forests of Sri Lanka. Dambulla is spectacular. You will visit the largest and best preserved cave temple complex of Sri Lanka. The city also boasts the largest rose quartz mountain range in South Asia, and the Ironwood forest, or Namal Uyana. You will settle in for an overnight stay in Dambulla.

Day 4

Your first stop after Dambulla will be the breathtaking site of Sigiriya. Sigiriya is a vast volcanic plug upon which an ancient fortress was built. Climb the 2000 steps to the top for an unparalleled view. Along the way, enjoy the network of gardens and reservoirs, and the frescoes in the caves on the journey up. Another testament to the skill of the ancient civilisations of this island is Polonnaruwa, around which you will have a tour. It is a UNESCO Heritage Site and the second most ancient of Sri Lanka's kingdoms.

Day 5 and 6

After much touring and travelling, you will be able to enjoy two days in peaceful Passikudah, another beach town. Here you will find glorious beaches. Amazingly, Passikudah has one of the longest stretches of shallow coastline in the world. People walk kilometers into the sea because the water is only a few inches deep and the current is relatively weak.

Day 7

From Passikudah you will move on to Maduru Oya National Park, home to a host of wildlife including sloth bears, leopards, elephants, and water buffalo, among many many others. The park is also home to indigenous people living in a small village. You will get a chance to visit them, bringing vital money to the economy, and learning about traditions at risk of being lost to time. Finally, you will move on to Sri Lanka’s cultural capital, Kandy.

Day 8

Today you will explore the wonders of Kandy. The Temple of the Tooth is a sacred place and you will quickly be caught up in the atmosphere, heavy with prayers. The elegance and history combine to create a place which feels magical, even if you do not hold it as sacred. You will get a real taste for and understanding of the incredible cultural heritage of the island at the National Museum and World Buddhist Museum as well as at the vast and spectacular Bahirawakanda Buddha Vihara Statute. Finally, enjoy a spectacular cultural show in the evening with dancing and perhaps even some fire walking.

Day 9

On day nine, you will head to Nuwara Eliya, where you will visit a tea factory and the Horton Plains National Park. The Park is covered with montane grassland and cloud forest. Take a moment to appreciate the stunning vistas and perhaps glimpse sambar deer nosing their way through the grassland. You may also see macaque and langurs and cats at either end of the spectrum: beautiful Sri Lankan Leopards and tiny, toy-like rusty spotted cats (one of the smallest members of the cat family). Gregory lake then offers a chance to relax completely. This man-made lake was initially designed to be a source of hydroelectric power, however when it was built, the beauty of its surroundings very rapidly drew people to spend their leisure time here, picnicking on the shores.

Day 10

On the way to Sri Lanka’s capital, you will visit St Claire and Devon falls. St Claire is the widest falls in Sri Lanka and known as “Sri Lanka’s little Niagra”. Both falls are truly picturesque.

Day 11

Your final full day will be spent seeing the sites of the country’s busy capital and having a chance to shop for a few souvenirs. Soak up the atmosphere and make the most of your time!

Day 12

Finally, you will be transferred back to the airport, where you can say your farewells, and head home or off on more adventures!
