“Do good and have the trip of a lifetime on this volunteer holiday in Vietnam!”
Give and take in this perfect week-long exploration of true, rural Vietnam. Begin by escaping into the stunning and unique landscape to find yourself at a village. Learn about local life here as it has gone on for centuries. Learn crafts and find yourself welcomed by the locals. Give back by working closely alongside the community to complete a project of their design, and leave knowing you have enriched one another’s lives. Take a couple of days to relax afterwards. Tour some of the karst landscape and be blown away by the towering limestone peaks that erupt from perfectly flat and idyllic paddy fields. Visit temples in the ancient capital Hoa Lu, and return home with memories you will always cherish.
Your tour guides take sustainability very seriously. You will see this in the way they collect trash wherever possible to create a cleaner and more beautiful environment and to set a good example. Your group size will be limited to 10 so that they can effectively guide you on how best to treat the environment and your hosts. Small numbers also allow for your food to be provided locally and sustainably. Your hosts will cook for you, giving you a taste of traditional Vietnamese fare. Your money will go to local people to support a livelihood in tourism rather than more destructive industries. In return for learning about the delicious local food and the beautiful culture, the guides will encourage conversations with locals about maintaining clean, healthy environments.
You will stay with locals in homestays and guest houses run by local people. Learn about Vietnam as locals see it and feel the warmth and hospitality of the culture. Homestays work in rotation through the villages since this shares the wealth and experience throughout the whole village.
Start your adventures in Hanoi, arriving the day before your tour starts. On the first day of your tour, you will enjoy a delicious breakfast, before you head out at 8 am and start your travels to the Hoa Binh province. You will stop for lunch and take a short break in Mai Chau before continuing to Moc Chau.
Start your first trek off the beaten track to your remote village destination. Check in at your homestay, settle down, and relax. Tomorrow, your first community project will begin!
The village is near Moc Chau town and you will spend two days here for the project. The work done here is dependent on what the village wants and needs and is always done in conversation with the locals so you will find out the current work when you book.
Finish your project on the morning of the fourth day and enjoy lunch with locals. Rest and relax before heading to Ninh Binh to check in and stay the night.
Depart from your hotel at 9 am to head to Trang An. On arrival, take a rowboat out onto the water. This boat ride will last around two and a half hours. Glide serenely through beautiful landscapes along a meandering stream surrounded by towering limestone peaks. You will even pass through some limestone caves along the way.
From the river, you will take a short transfer along a peaceful road to Hoa Lu. Your guide will introduce you to Vietnam’s historical and ancient capital and tell stories of the two kings who are now worshipped there. In the evening, take a transfer to your hotel and stay the night in Ninh Binh.
Enjoy a free morning to soak up the atmosphere of this incredible country. There are options to take a bike ride, visit Tam Coc, Bich Dong, or Thai Vi Temple. Have lunch and head back to Hanoi at around 5 pm for the end of the tour. This is a perfect introduction to the country or addition to any other tour!
