The detail

"A wildlife extravaganza in Belize, taking you underwater and on foot to explore the beautiful nature and animals the country has to offer."

Caribbean beaches, tropical forests, undiscovered caves, paradise islands and Mayan ruins. Belize is home to a world of natural wonders and has an amazing cultural history. On top of this, over half of Belize is made up of protected reserves, making it the dream destination for animal lovers and conservation enthusiasts alike. This ten day tour gives you the chance to explore the best nature that Belize has to offer – both above ground and underwater. You’ll witness amazing wildlife and nature up close and in the wild and see it all with a company who are dedicated to ecotourism, meaning your holiday is not only amazing, but also eco-friendly.

On this trip, you’ll explore amazing underwater ecosystems as you snorkel in giants reefs, hike through jungles teeming with animals and plants and come face to face with Mayan culture and traditions. There’s a huge array of activities on offer, from chocolate making to waterfall trekking, making it exciting, diverse, and perfect for anyone looking for adventure. The itinerary can also be tweaked to your liking, giving you the opportunity to prioritise your must-see locations so you make the most of your time.

TREE use locally owned accommodation, restaurants and research centres. This not only helps give back to the local community and promotes sustainable tourism, but also means that you can experience Belize authentically – the best of both worlds! In addition to this, the natural (and protected) areas you visit on this tour actively benefit from tourism, meaning your visit contributes to their maintenance and sustainability.

One of the most important aspects of an ecotourism experience is education, and this is certainly a high priority for TREE. They strive to include educational expert-led discussions about various aspects of sustainability, such as forest management, environmental science, ecology and development. This educational aspect to TREE helps encourage a long-standing approach to conservation by spreading understanding of the real importance of eco-tourism.

Day 1

Arrival: Once you’ve landed in Belize City, you’ll get your first taste for the country with a relaxing introduction at either the Monkey Bay Centre, Community Baboon Wildlife Sanctuary of St. Herman’s inland blue hole.

Day 2-4

Get Exploring: The world is your oyster: do you prefer jungles or islands? If you go for islands, you’ll hop on a boat to nearby islands where you can snorkel in the largest living reef in the world, learning all about it along the way. At the rural island of Turneffe Atoll you might be lucky enough to spot dolphins or manatees, while Caye Caulker offers the chance to swim with nurse sharks and stingrays. Alternatively, head to Tobacco Cave for some exclusive night snorkelling! No matter which island you pick, you’ll explore mangroves and learn all about these peculiar trees.

Day 5-7

The Jungle King: Having spent time in the sea, it’s time to explore dry land, as you have the chance to experience either the jungles of Cayo or the rainforests in the Cockscomb Basin Wildlife Sanctuary. The Cayo jungle is home to amazing flora, ancient caves, Mayan ruins and a river you can float along through villages. From here, you can reach the incredible Mountain Pine Ridge reserve – one of the most stunning places on Earth! Or see monkeys, bird and much more at the Wildlife Sanctuary, the only jaguar reserve in the world. These elusive big cats are hard to spot, but with the help of infrared camera you might have the chance to see them or track their paw prints. Other activities during these days include exploring Tiger Fern waterfall, visiting the Maya centre or tubing down the river.

Day 8

City Living: Head back to Belize City, where you can get back to city life. Alternatively, you can choose to stay a bit farther afield at the Tropical Education Centre. From the centre you can visit Belize zoo and conservation centre.

Day 9

Adios Amigos: The wildlife adventure is over. It’s time to head back home from Belize City airport or continue your travels elsewhere.
