The detail

"Ever wished you were inside a David Attenborough documentary? Now you can be!"

The tiger, as India’s national animal, has long been an integral part of the country’s culture and mythology. Although the tiger is one of nature’s most efficient predators, it is also one of its most threatened. However, in the forests of the night in the heart of India, the tiger still reigns supreme. The internationally-renowned Bandhavgarh National Park is right on the lodge’s doorstep, making it the ideal place for you to experience of the beautifully wild Indian jungle and perhaps even spot Bengal Tigers that call the park ‘home’. The lodge recently featured in David Attenborough’s documentary The Hunt, with its expert staff helping the crew to film tigers in their natural environment.

The lodge complex has been developed with a typical Indian village in mind, with 14 independent cottages and two villas comfortably furnished with modern amenities including solar-heated running water. Dine under the stars on an open veranda, with Indian and Continental cuisine served in a thatched dining room. Accompanied by the lodge’s expert resident naturalist you’ll enjoy daily jungle safaris, giving you the opportunity to spot tigers, leopards, sloth bears and wolves. Wake up to the dawn chorus of birdsong, and at night listen out for deer calling to each other to alert the herd that prowling tigers are close by…

The managers of the family-run Bhandhavgarh Jungle Lodge aim to sustain a legacy of ‘eco-viable and earthy tourism’. Without the natural jungle environment and its inhabitants, the lodge would lose its key attraction, and so conservation of these natural resources is vital. In order to protect and conserve the environment, the lodge has been constructed with minimum impact on the jungle, and is managed in an eco-friendly way according to the lodge’s ethos. One of the most important aspects of the jungle experience for guests is having an expert naturalist on site to help interpret nature and its inhabitants. Through sharing knowledge, guests are imbued with a greater understanding of nature; this is something they can take away, even when their holiday comes to an end.

The lodge has many notable sustainable features: an efficient composting technique involving worms is used to hygienically dispose of organic waste, and to create rich organic fertilisers for use on the onsite farm. Many of the fresh vegetables used at the lodge come from this organic farm, and there is also a medicinal/herbal plant garden. Aiming to increase their dependence on renewable energy sources, the lodge uses efficient solar water-heaters in their hot water system, and also uses solar cookers to provide some of the lodge’s food. Guests can even request a lesson!
