"Amidst northern Patagonia’s native forests, a magical Mushroom Kingdom rises up out of the fertile soil."
Inspired by forest plant life, Lodge Reino Fungi is an architectural marvel that blends wonderfully into its natural surroundings, offering itself as a new, living component of the stunning Huilo Huilo Biological Reserve. Situated under the watchful gaze of the majestic Andes Mountain range, the Huilo Huilo Biological Reserve is part of a unique and relatively unexplored ecosystem within the Chilean Patagonian Rainforest. The architecturally surreal Lodge Reino Fungi takes the form of a giant three-storey mushroom, and offers a totally unique and truly enchanting rainforest experience.
Within the giant woodland mushroom are luxuriously furnished and beautifully decorated rooms, and guests have direct access to the spa facilities including a heated pool and sauna – perfect for a relaxing and restful forest retreat! The lodge also provides the perfect base from which to explore the breath-taking surrounding environment, with a wide variety of river and forest activities including horse-back riding along nature trails, trekking in the wilderness and adventurous mountain-biking for adrenaline-seekers! The Huilo Huilo Reserve also offers the chance for guests to enjoy various excursions including kayaking and hiking, with each expedition culminating at the summit of the beautiful Mocho-Choshuenco Volcano.
The Huilo Huilo Biological Reserve is part of a unique and relatively unexplored ecosystem, deep within the Chilean Patagonian Rainforest. The reserve is one of the few places on earth with a biologically, ecologically and globally important temperate rainforest ecosystem – travellers are encouraged to respect the area’s natural rhythms, rare habitats and endangered species, so that future generations can continue to enjoy this beautiful world heritage area. The Huilo Huilo project’s scientific research and the conservation work being done in the area have received international attention and acclaim; one flagship project is the protection of the Huemul deer, a national symbol in danger of extinction. The project has helped to breed the species within a controlled environment, helping to ensure its long-term survival.
The Huilo Huilo Foundation aims to develop flora and fauna conservation projects in the area, involving local communities and entrepreneurs and taking a collaborative and inclusive approach to ensure the project’s success. As the Huilo Huilo project has grown and developed, so too have local communities. The project works alongside an extensive network of public and private collaborators, all committed to conserving the area’s natural and cultural sustainability. By adopting an inclusive approach when developing the area as a sustainable ecotourism destination, local communities are able to benefit and take ownership of the project.
