"Have an other-worldly experience amongst the snow drifts in your cozy private pod!"
Oh my POD. Perched at an altitude of 1,400 metres in the Swiss Alps, Whitepod eco-resort, with its contemporary twist on the igloo, is gloriously other-worldly. But you don’t have to travel across the Universe for an unforgettable experience at this unique hotel. In fact, it’s only an hour and a half’s drive from Geneva airport. Accommodation at Whitepod takes the form of ‘pods’: spherical tents erected on wooden platforms, designed to have a minimal impact on the breath-taking alpine surroundings. These extraordinary Geodesic constructs provide all the comfort and luxury of a hotel whilst also remaining genuinely eco-friendly.
There are plenty of activities for guests to enjoy throughout both the summer and winter seasons at Whitepod. During the summer, enjoy the outdoors as you play a game of tennis or badminton, and test your logic with giant chess. When winter comes and the resort is blanketed in snow, enjoy Whitepod’s privately managed ski slopes reserved especially for guests. Also included in your stay are ‘Snowscoots’ which offer a fun and alternative way of exploring the unspoiled alpine environment. All-year-round activities (snow or no-snow) include paragliding, hiking, massages and spa treatments.
Whitepod has perfectly blended ecology with hospitality through the ingenious design of its ‘pods’. These structures can at any time be dismantled, meaning that there is minimal long-term impact on the surrounding environment. The pods are low-impact in other ways: the lack of corners in the igloo-like domes means that warm air generated by the wood-burning stoves is circulated easily, maintaining an even internal temperature. Pods require 30% less energy to heat and cool than a normal building. Throughout the resort, there are numerous clever design features that mean less water and energy consumption. Showers and boilers are fitted with water-saving devices and timers, and closed fireplaces mean that wood burns more slowly.
The pods’ colours change to fit the seasonal surroundings (green in summer, white in winter), allowing the structures to blend in dreamily with the natural landscape. Waste is carefully managed, with recycling encouraged throughout the resort. All cleaning products are 100% biodegradable and all paper products (from brochures to toilet paper) are certified by the FSC (Forest Stewardship Council). Foods and beverages at the resort also conform to this policy of sustainability: fish served in the resort’s Restaurant Les Cerniers is MSC (Marine Stewardship Council) certified, and only seasonal produce is used.
