“The spirit of Brazil resides in this beautiful converted coffee farm”
Catuçaba means “land of good people” in tupi-guarani, a Native American language. This lodge is set in a mountain range and surrounded by protected forest. Hike or horseback ride, take part in sunset meditation and explore the surrounding villages. Return to a room or suite of white-washed walls and large windows to let in natural light: the architecture here is simple and in-keeping with its environment so as to highlight the beauty of nature. For a little more privacy, stay in one of the private villas. You will never be too distant from your natural surroundings; Brazilian cuisine is provided, cooked from locally grown, organic produce.
The very philosophy of Fazenda Catçaba is to live in harmony with nature, to protect the surrounding UNSECO World Heritage site. This means having a minimal impact. Waste is kept to a minimum by using biodegradable products and only using reusable drinking bottles. Food is organic, seasonal, and locally sourced.
This principle of using local resources extends to the people. The lodge employs local people on a fair wage and offers training opportunities and language lessons too! It has lead a boom in local economy, both through providing jobs, and sourcing food and resources from the local area.
Learning goes both ways! Whilst the lodge provides education to locals, they also strongly believe in the importance of travellers learning about local culture and taking life-long memories away from this unique experience.
