The detail

"Swim alongside the world's biggest fish, that is on your bucket list surely? This is a true taste of Mexico"

The diverse areas of Quintana Roo and the Yucatán Peninsula in Mexico are known for the huge range of adventure, nature and history that they have to offer within such a small area of the country. It’s astounding to see such a broad array of differing landscapes, historical and cultural sites and fantastic wildlife so close to one another! If you want to get a real taste of Mexico, whilst having fun, encountering nature, exploring the outdoors and discovering the history of Mayan culture, then this eco-tour offers it all in just one week.

You’ll have the chance to visit the world-famous Mayan ruins of Chichén Itzá, snorkel in crystal blue cenotes (beautiful natural pools), explore the dense Mexican jungle, and also spend some time simply chilling on white sandy beaches whilst you take in the spectacular views around you. With a wide range of different activities to do, and plenty of amazing sights to see, you'll get an authentic overview of Mexico and a fascinating insight into her history - whilst of course enjoying a sustainable and eco-friendly experience!

The deep green forests and azure lagoons of tropical America are the inspiration behind EcoColors’ vibrant designation. As well as keeping nature in the name, this sustainable tour operator also aims to put nature, and the preservation of natural environments, at the forefront of its operations. EcoColors’ mission is to deliver innovative and exclusive ecotours in the biologically and culturally rich ‘Mayan World’ of Mexico, and to enhance their travellers’ understanding of the natural environments they visit through ‘quality, warmth and education’. All of the company’s tours aim to show off Mexico’s natural wonders, whilst also contributing to the research and ongoing protection of the country’s natural areas.

EcoColors understands that natural habitats are fragile; the company therefore keeps group numbers small, in order to not exceed the biological ‘carrying capacity’ of ecosystems. EcoColors’ tours also contribute to local economies by incorporating visits to rural areas, thereby supporting the communities that inhabit these areas. To ensure that they stay at the forefront of any developments in the field of sustainability, EcoColors works with multiple research organisations including the WWF and the Ecotourism Society. By adopting a collaborative, multi-organisation approach, these agencies are better able to protect natural habitats and their inhabitants.

Day 1
Arrival Day

Settling In: You will arrive at Cancun airport and take a transfer to your hotel, where you can make yourself at home and prepare for the adventurous week ahead.

Day 2
Getting to Know Puerto Morelos

After a relaxing morning on the beach and a bite to eat, you’ll head towards the Mexican jungle near Puerto Morelos. Here, you have the chance to go quad biking (if you fancy an adrenaline kick!) or snorkelling in your first cenote.

Day 3
Sian Ka’an Biosphere Reserve

You’ll have the chance to explore the Sian Ka’an Biosphere Reserve, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, where you can kayak across wetlands, hike through the jungle or swim, surrounded by fish, in natural pools. Alongside these activities, you can also learn about and participate in one of the conservation projects taking place at the reserve. After all this adventure, you’ll head to Tulum where you can enjoy lunch at Don Cafeto.

Day 4
Chichén Itzá and Ik Kil Cenote

The gigantic archaeological site Chichén Itzá, one of the New Seven Wonders of the World and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is home to one of the most famous Mayan pyramids alongside many other impressive buildings and structures. Here you can learn about Mayan history and culture, before cooling off with a visit to the heavenly Ik Kil cenote in the eco-archaeological park.

Day 5
Whale Shark or Coba and Tulum

Depending on the time of year there are two different options for the 5th day. In the summer (mid-May to mid-September), you’ll get the chance to swim with whale sharks; one of Mexico’s highlights for wildlife lovers, the opportunity to swim and snorkel with the biggest fish in the ocean is an experience not to be missed! In the winter (mid-September to mid-May), you can deepen your understanding of Mayan culture as you explore the historical sites of Coba and Tulum, where you’ll discover the only beachfront Mayan ruins in the world.

Day 6
Exploring Xcaret

Xcaret, meaning “small cove” in Mayan, is an eco-archaeological park where you can journey through underground rivers, see a jaguar den, watch equestrian shows, visit the butterfly pavilion or explore 'Spider Monkey Island'. With animals, nature, water activities and various cultural performances and exhibits, you’ll have tonnes to do on your final day!

Day 7
Time to Say Goodbye

After a jam-packed week it’ll be time for you to head back to reality. After breakfast at the hotel you’ll be taken to Cancun airport for your return flight home.
