“Spend a week understanding the vibrant and diverse ways of life in India’s ‘Wild East’!”

Described as the “Wild East” of India, Nagaland is a place of Primeval beauty, hills and valleys of verdant green, and deep-rooted cultural history. Each of the area’s 16 tribes has unique dress, customs, and language. On this week-long adventure of the area, you will spend time in homestays in different areas and meet the vibrant people. Nagaland is also known as the land of festivals; with diverse peoples celebrating at different times, there seems to be a year-long atmosphere of festivity.

On this trip, you will move among villages, staying in homestays and getting to know local families. Enjoy the bustle of Dimapur and the tranquility of Kigwema. Climb to the peak of Glory and be breath-taken by the incredible view of Everest from there. This unique tour will leave you with memories to last a lifetime.

During this tour, you will be living with local people. All of the in-country guides are local people, who know the area so you know you will get the insider’s view as well as giving back to the local economy. The tour works with rural communities to encourage homestay based experiential travel with a focus on rural micro-entrepreneurship and skill development. It sets out to promote sustainable and responsible travel in alignment with the Sustainable Development Goals set out by the UN.

Day 1
Day 1 - Arrival

Fly into Dimapur airport and drive up to Kigwema village. Here you will meet your host family and be welcomed warmly into their home. Enjoy a home-cooked Naga meal and settle in.

Day 2
Day 2 - Kohima and Khonomo

Visit the capital city of Kohima and explore the bustle and the famous cathedrals, war cemetery, and market. Spend the evening at the market purchasing exotic ingredients for your culinary tour experience!

Next, take a drive to Khonoma village. This project is unique in the country. It is a true testament to the will of the tribal groups of the area to protect their natural habitat. This is an eco-village, where all forms of hunting are admonished to promote a more sustainable ecosystem. The people in the area are known to be dependent on nature for their food and to hunt a great deal. However, the tribes here have given up these practices in order to protect their environment. It is incredible to see such courage, resolve, and success!

Day 3
Day 3 - Kigwema and Kisama

Today you will learn the traditional Angami way of life. See Morungs and local homes. Learn to weave shawls and baskets. Spend your afternoons walking the fields and have a delicious exotic lunch out here, savoring the local wine.

After lunch, head to Kisama, a heritage village in Nagaland. Here you can see the ethnic and cultural heritage preserved and celebrated.

Day 4
Day 4 - Pfutsero

Pfutsero is the coldest inhabited place in Nagaland. It is luscious and green with verdant foliage and visitors here are quick to fall in love with the place. Settle into your homestay here and get to know the family. Walking around the area, you will meet members of the Chakhesang Tribe, which dominates the area. This is the ideal chance to get to know more about their culture.

Day 5
Day 5 - Pfutsero sightseeing, evening drive to Kigwema

You will spend some time today getting to better know the area around Pfutsero, visiting places such as the Glory peak, a kilometer from town. This is a plateau which offers the best view of Everest: the World’s Highest Mountain. You will also head to the cave which was witness to a battle between the British and Japanese during the Second World War.

Explore more of the town and in the evening, head to Kigwema and your next homestay. Settle in for a relaxed evening.
