For many people, Costa Rica and ecotourism go hand in hand, as the country has had huge success implementing the responsible environmental policies that a lot of the tourist business in the area abide by. In Costa Rica, the Certification in Sustainable Tourism (CST) program is used to rate businesses on their level of sustainability in regards to nature, culture and community. Pioneer Expedition works in partnership with local businesses and hotels who abide by these models and have gained impressive scores on this scale. All the accommodation used on this tour is CST certified, ensuring that dedication to ecotourism is maintained in all aspects of the trip.
Pioneer Expedition also supports local people in the area. They only hire local guides and drivers and source food from ethical resources in the area. Their local partners are also engaged in a selection of community projects that run reforestation programs in the area and support local schools. Protecting both the wildlife and the community is a key commitment made by Pioneer Expeditions to ensure all their trips have a positive and lasting impact.
