Costa Rica Climate Change Project
Puerto Jimenez, Costa Rica, Central America, Americas
“Take part in vital work to protect biodiversity and guard against climate change in the tropical paradise of Costa Rica.”
Working in one of the most ecologically interesting and diverse areas in the world, you’ll be helping to investigate the effects of climate change on biodiversity in Costa Rica. Home to more than 500,000 species, including pumas, jaguars, sloths and turtles, you’ll carry out surveys to find out how best to protect these animals and preserve their environments.
It’s not all about work though - you’ll be staying with other like-minded volunteers in a wilderness camp set in dense tropical forest next to a pristine sandy beach, so there are plenty of opportunities to kick back and relax in your downtime.
Working on this project you’ll be actively contributing to safeguarding the future of the incredible biodiversity of Costa Rica’s protected areas against the effects of climate change. Living in a wilderness camp and eating locally produced food, you’ll be conducting surveys on leaf litter frogs, birds, turtles, primates and butterflies, amongst other species. By helping to establish a baseline against which future protected area management can be assessed, you’ll be keeping wildlife safe from the potential ravages of climate change.
