"Pitch up camp in the tropical paradise of Panama, with some of the most unique eye-to-eye views the forest has to offer!"
Escape to one of the most unexplored corners of Central America at The Canopy Camp! Sleeping in the safety of your safari style tents, propped up amongst the towering Cuipo trees, you’ll be at one with the sights and sounds of the forest. At the camp, you have the chance to enjoy nature whichever way best suits you – whether you admire the dawn chorus over breakfast or explore the forest trails accompanied by an expert guide. Rarities living nearby include barred puffbirds, black orpendolas and most excitingly: harpy eagles! With wildlife active all day and all night, rest assured, this location is widely recognised as one of the best birdwatching spots on Earth.
Most of the structures that make up the Canopy Camp are sourced from a sustainably managed local teak plantation that was first planted by the owner in 1990. By using locally and sustainably sourced natural products in this way, Canopy Camp were able to reduce the potential carbon footprint of having to source other building materials from further afield. To this day, Canopy Camp retains strong links with the local community by continuing to purchase local goods - a huge boost in one of Panama’s most economically deprived regions.
Sustainability measures are taken into consideration on a daily basis at the Canopy Camp, with the aim to reduce waste and save energy in numerous different ways. Renewable energy is a crucial aspect of the Canopy Camp, with energy on the site sourced from 30 solar panels of 250 watts each, making the most of the Panama sunshine! Water is collected from the mountain range of a local hydrological reserve, utilising yet more local resources. Finally, a Poly-Al roof provides additional natural cooling for lounge areas, eliminating the need for inefficient expensive fans.
