"Discover an extraordinary guesthouse hidden deep within the southern Chilean rainforest."
Give a hobbit an unlimited budget, and a plot within a 300,000-acre private nature reserve, and what would they come up with? Probably the Montaña Mágica Lodge. This other-worldly hotel has been built to resemble a volcano, and even ‘erupts’, sending water cascading down the outside of the lush moss and vine-covered exterior. To reach the Magic Mountain, intrepid guests must cross from a treetop walkway into the hotel’s lobby, via a swinging rope bridge. Once the bridge is crossed, the adventure truly begins…
The lodge’s 13 cosy suites are each named after native bird species, boast beautifully decorated wooden interiors, and come equipped with luxurious modern amenities. Each room looks out onto the surrounding garden, allowing guests to feel truly immersed in the rainforest. With an indoor pool, spa, and wellness centre, at the end of each day of adventure guests can relax in hot tubs carved out of huge tree trunks, looking out over the forest as water trickles down the side of the lodge. There’s a whole host of activities on site and in the surrounding area, including hiking, skiing, cycling, rafting and horseback riding. Experience the magic of the forest for yourself, and step right into your very own fairy tale with a stay at the Montaña Mágica Lodge.
The Huilo Huilo Biological Reserve is part of a unique and relatively unexplored ecosystem, deep within the Chilean Patagonian Rainforest. The reserve is one of the few places on earth with a biologically, ecologically and globally important temperate rainforest ecosystem – travellers are encouraged to respect the area’s natural rhythms, rare habitats and endangered species, so that future generations can continue to enjoy this beautiful world heritage area. The Huilo Huilo project’s scientific research and the conservation work being done in the area have received international attention and acclaim; one flagship project is the protection of the Huemul deer, a national symbol in danger of extinction. The project has helped to breed the species within a controlled environment, helping to ensure its long-term survival.
The Huilo Huilo Foundation aims to develop flora and fauna conservation projects in the area, involving local communities and entrepreneurs and taking a collaborative and inclusive approach to ensure the project’s success. As the Huilo Huilo project has grown and developed, so too have local communities. The project works alongside an extensive network of public and private collaborators, all committed to conserving the area’s natural and cultural sustainability. By adopting an inclusive approach when developing the area as a sustainable ecotourism destination, local communities are able to benefit and take ownership of the project.
