The detail

For all those experienced divers seeking the ultimate underwater adventure - you need look no further. Climb aboard the M/V Galapagos Sky for a week long scuba-diving extravaganza. Journey across some of the most idyllic ocean landscapes on the planet, making for some of the best open-water diving experiences in the world. Where on earth do you find such a place? Well, the Galapagos islands of course! Charles Darwin may have travelled here for science, but your travels aboard the resplendent M/V Galapagos Sky cruise ship will take you from island to island to admire the stunning flora and fauna both on land and under the sea.

Your cruise starts on Isla Lobos where you will first be introduced to the majestic marine world beneath the surface. However, the best is yet to come! You will visit two of the archipelago's most remote islands, Wolf and Darwin, whose shores are home to a veritable smorgasbord of species swimming alongside you. You will also get the chance to see gracious Galapagos tortoises as well as visiting the Darwin research centre before your departure home. For a truly memorable island tour that will capture your imagination from start to finish, why not take the plunge?

The Galapagos archipelago is an incredibly fragile ecosystem, at threat from illegal fishing and unsustainable tourism. Ecoventura has made progress in sustainable tourism and conservation, ensuring that their yachts meet the guidelines for eco-friendly tourism by limiting carbon emissions and introducing fuel-saving measures. Levels of water pollution in and around the Galapagos are also a concern; whilst some ships dispose of untreated grey water into the sea, Ecoventura ensures that they treat all grey and black water in order to dispose of waste without contributing to water pollution.

The Ecoventura family is dedicated to sustainable tourism; with a crew passionate about the Galapagos this company provides the public with the chance to see and visit these awe-inspiring islands without having a negative impact on delicate ecosystems. Ecoventura supports various local charities and conservation initiatives, and ensures that local communities are involved by helping to raise environmental awareness and even providing educational scholarships. Ecoventura has been dedicated to making their Galapagos tours eco-friendly since 1999; with half a million dollars invested in updating their yachts, Ecoventura really are the leaders of sustainable tourism in the Galapagos. It is no surprise that this is an award-winning experience in sustainable tourism as well as a true voyage of discovery.

Day 1

Arrival: Following your flight into San Cristobal, you will be escorted to the Galapagos Sky cruise ship to commence your travels. After learning about the necessary safety procedures, it doesn’t take long before your first dive of the tour in the Los Lobos area. Although you may be astounded at first, it is merely a preview of what to expect over the coming days…

Day 2

Bartolome and Cousins Rocks: Your day will start with a land excursion on Bartolome with the possibility of snorkelling with penguins (sadly this is weather permitting). In the afternoon, you will get the first real taste of the tropical paradise that rests under the waves. You will have the opportunity to marvel at walls of coral, a vast variety of tropical fish and you may even be lucky enough to share the water with hammerhead sharks!

Day 3-5

Darwin and Wolf islands: You will have a long journey to reach the most spectacular segment of the tour. With eleven dives in total over three days including a night dive, you will be treated to a tropical wonderland before your very eyes. From the big guns like bottlenosed dolphins and potential whale sharks to more colourful creatures like tuna, marlin and octopus – the diversity of species is truly staggering.

Day 6

Cape Douglas and Punta Vicente Roca: After a trip back across the equator, you will reach the western edge of the archipelago for three dives in one day, with one in Cape Douglas and two in the afternoon at Punta Vincente Roca. Your wildlife encounters will include brushing shoulders with flightless cormorants, Galapagos penguins and marine iguanas, an eclectic mix to say the least. Deep amongst the corals you may also find seahorses, parrotfish and white-tip reef sharks. This dive will be colder than usual so brace yourself!

Day 7

Isla Pinzon: Today you will have your last dip in the ocean off the coast of Isla Pinzon – it’s your last chance to catch an underwater glimpse of species like sharks, rays, barracuda and angelfish (to name just a few). Your afternoon will be spent on dry land in the highlands of Santa Cruz where you will be privileged enough to meet some centuries-old natural relics: Galapagos tortoises. These resplendent reptiles will only add to the fantastic views that you will come across when walking across the island.

Day 8

Land tour and departure: Today will be your final day on the tour so you will be given a tour of San Cristobal and will visit the interpretation centre in order to learn about the history of these unique islands. You will then depart in late morning to commence your onward travel plans.
