Welcome to Quito! This is the largest and best preserved city in the Americas and in 1978 it was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Indeed, this city is utterly fascinating. It is considered the cultural capital of South America as well as the second most important city of the old Inca Empire.
If you arrive in the morning, you will have some time to explore the stunning old town and the surrounding area. If you want to organize a day trip, don’t hesitate to ask us and we will help you!
In the evening, you will head to your hotel and meet your guide for a welcome briefing.
Head out to the incredible archipelago which is the Galapagos. The unique mix of wildlife here inspired Darwin’s theory of evolution and continues to attract nature lovers every year. You will board a morning flight from Quito to the island of San Cristóbal. Here you will have a chance to settle in to your hotel and attend a short briefing about the coming adventure.
In the afternoon, you will head to La Loberia. This is both a beach and nursery for Galapagos sea lions. These cheeky and inquisitive creatures can be spotted lazing on the sand or launching themselves off rocks into the sparkling seas. You may also see yellow warbler birds, frigate birds, and several species of Darwin Finch. Between the rocks you will find marine iguanas, which are unique to the Galapagos! Enjoy the warm sands and explore the waters with a snorkel.
In the morning of day three, you will take a speed boat to Kicker Rock, also known as the Sleeping Lion. Historic lava eruptions have left dramatic natural sculptures. The remains of two lava cones eroded by the sea now form two vertical rocks rising 500 feet above the ocean and form a channel through which your boat will make its way. These natural monuments are a favourite haven of a plethora of birds.
Beneath the cerulean waves you will spy stunning tropical fish and even some sharks.
After lunch, you will head to Cerro Brujo, an island teeming with froliking sea lions. This is a perfect opportunity to do some more snorkeling.
In the morning, you will head out to Isabela Island, the largest island in the archipelago and one of the most volcanically active places on earth. On the boat ride across, keep an eye out for dolphins and sharks.
In the afternoon, you will head out on mountain bikes to explore the glorious coastline, taking you through an incredible ecosystem. You will stop to visit the Wall of Tears, a massive wall built with lava rocks. The site dates back to the ‘50s, when Isabela was used as a penal colony. Prisoners were forced to build the wall in order to keep them from going mad from the isolation. As you continue along the coast, you will explore pristine, white sand beaches, mangrove forests and lagoons. This is the perfect opportunity to see the incredible birdlife such as American oystercatchers, herons, flamingos, finches and many.
Before dinner you can enjoy a breathtaking sunset on the beach.
You will begin the day by driving up from Puerto Villamil to the beginning of your hiking trail. You will prepare your backpacks and hike into the stunning young forest ecosystem. Your destination is the Sierra Negra Crater, an active volcano which last erupted in 2005. From the crater’s edge, you will have breathtaking views of the lava-filled crater, over six miles across at its widest point.
In the afternoon, you will head down to visit Tintoreras Islet, a short distance from Puerto Villamil and home to a wonderful variety of wildlife. Its turquoise, crystalline waters are inhabited by white-tipped reef sharks, Galapagos penguins, turtles and sea lions. One of its beaches surrounded by mangroves is one of the few sites where marine iguanas can reproduce successfully.
Volcanic activity on the island has produce some of the most incredible natural land and seascapes imaginable. Today you will be exploring the amazing formations created by lava along the seashore. It is a labyrinth of lava arches amongst the waves. Swim through crystal clear water and spot sea turtles, eagle rays, sea lions, fish, white-tipped reef sharks and more. On the shore, get up close to the playful and curious Galapagos Penguins.
Before or after the trip, you can enjoy some optional activities such as snorkeling at "Concha de Perla", taking surfing lessons or just relax on the exotic white-sand beaches of Isabela Island. We recommend you to take some time to visit the giant tortoise breeding centre.
In the morning, you will take a fast boat from Isabela to Santa Cruz Island. On the crossing keep an eye out for dolphins and whales.
On the island, you will visit the Charles Darwin Research Station to learn all about the incredible species you have seen so far. You will also hear about the ongoing conservation work on the islands.
In the afternoon, you will head to El Chato Reserve in the highlands, home to the famous Galapagos tortoise. Hike through a magical world filled with these lumbering giants. Other highland wildlife includes pintail ducks, egrets, flycatchers, and finches, and you will get a chance to watch frigate birds wash the salt from their wings in a freshwater lake.
In the evening, return to Puerto Ayora.
Today you can take your time to experience the Galapagos at your own pace. Explore the dry forest on the way to Tortuga Bay, a gorgeous white sand beach and the nesting site of thousands of marine turtles. Here you are welcome to swim of snorkel. Alternatively, join an optional extra activity such as a trip to Floreana Island, Bartolome Island, or a scuba diving day trip.
After a final breakfast on the islands, board a flight to Quito and head to the mainland.
