“Combine tradition with comfort in this model of understated, intimate luxury!”
Hidden away in the southern, wilder side of Kenya’s Masai Mara is a stunning haven of style and comfort. The tents at Sala's Camp are luxurious but intimate, in muted greens and natural wood. They take inspiration from their surroundings so you can feel as in touch with nature as possible. For lovers, they offer a stunning honeymoon tent, which can also accommodate a family of up to four.
The staff at the camp pride themselves on their hospitality and arrangements are made with meticulous care so any special requirements such as particular diets can certainly be catered for. All guests enjoy full board, with three meals a day and most drinks covered (only champagne and specially imported wines and spirits are excluded).
Knowledgeable local guides will make your stay unforgettable as you witness some of the world’s most spectacular wildlife. This camp is the first to witness the migration of wildebeest, which you can see from June. From December to March, elephant sightings are absolutely spectacular. Naturally, a traditional safari is a must here. You will have the opportunity to spot the Big 5 (lion, leopard, rhinoceros, elephant, and buffalo) as well as the “Ugly 5”, also known as the Alternative Big 5 (hyena, vulture, warthog, wildebeest, and stork).
If you are an early riser, begin your days at dawn with a bush breakfast and see the Masai Mara come to life. After sundown, sit around the campfire and share travellers’ tales. You can even get a unique bird’s eye view of the landscape from a hot air balloon. However you spend your time at Sala’s Camp, it will be an unforgettable experience!
The owners of Sala’s Camp are a fantastic group whose focus is sustainability and conservation within Kenya. With cheetah and lion populations in decline in Kenya, big cat protection is a strong focus for the group. They work closely with the Mara Cheetah Project to ensure continued conservation.
Other projects they take part in include a school meal programme, a secondary school scholarship programme, talks to promote health and sexual education for girls, and guest talks by conservationists to educate people as to its importance among many others.
The Lodge believes that it is vital to protect the environment we are enjoying. There are so many little touches designed to make the project more sustainable. The insecticide used in the rooms is a natural pyrethrum based non-aerosol. Every cleaning product used is non-toxic and biodegradable. Resources are sources locally wherever possible and there is a kitchen garden at the lodge for growing salad and vegetables. The lodge will also provide all guests with a reusable metal canteen water bottle and, in doing so, have reduced their plastic waste by 85%.
