The detail

“See Machu Picchu from a different angle and find out more about the culture surrounding this ancient icon.”

A trip to see the ancient Inca city of Machu Picchu up close is just one of the highlights of this Eco Quechua tour. You’ll also have the chance to immerse yourself in Andian culture with a stay in the Casa de Barro Lodge and see other archeological sites that are further off the beaten track.

A trek along the Llactapata Inca Trail offers the chance to see a magical view of Machu Picchu which few tourists ever glimpse, a unique way to see one of the world’s greatest wonders.

Eco Quechua is committed to ethical values and sustainable development; it operates for profit but with a focus on the best working conditions for employees. It is committed to sustainable practices and conservation of biodiversity in the area in which Eco Quechua operates, and measures the impact that all of its activities generate. The company is always looking for the most effective ways to diminish its carbon footprint and mitigate emissions generated.

Day 1

Cusco: You’ll be picked up at your hotel and taken on a scenic tour of the Sacred Valley, where you’ll also visit the traditional Andean village of Chinchero. After exploring the village you’ll move on to Hotel Casa de Barro, where you’re spending the night.

Day 2

Chinchero - Eco Quechua Lodge: In the morning, you’ll cross the 4,316m high Malaga Pass, at the base of two impressive snow-capped glaciers and spend some time at the recently restored Guaman Marka Inca Ruins. After lunch in Santa Maria, you’ll trek to Eco Quechua Lodge, your base for the next three nights, for a candlelit dinner in the riverside restaurant.

Day 3

Eco Quechua Lodge: On the third day of the tour you can choose between a wide range of activities offered locally, from zip-line thrills to bird watching or an Andean sauna experience.

Day 4

Llactapata Inca Trail: After an early start, you’ll spend part of the morning at a local coffee plantation, where experts are on hand to explain about sustainable growing practices and the vital role that coffee has played in boosting the area socially and economically. After a cup of coffee to keep energy levels high, you’ll set off on a 2-3 hour hike towards the Llactapata Pass for your first glimpse of Machu Picchu. After eating lunch with a view, you’ll descend through lush bamboo forests, orchids and more coffee plantations.

Day 5

Machu Picchu: Machu Picchu is one of the best preserved ancient ruins in the world, and today you’ll have the chance to explore the site with your tour leader in the morning, before heading back to Cusco.
