"Explore the primate capital of the world, drift along the Kazinga Channel, and drift off to sleep on the banks of Lake Mutanda!"

East Africa is home to a huge variety of wildlife - lions, antelopes, hippos and much more - all of which can be found against the backdrop of stunning natural landscapes. This tour of Uganda offers the country’s top wildlife highlights, giving you the chance to see animals up close and in the wild, whilst also staying in a variety of exciting different types of accommodation including lake-side spots, safari lodges and national parks. With time spent exploring on foot, by boat and on safari-style drives, this tour covers a huge amount of ground in just over a week. Go and explore the Kibale Forest National Park, Lake Mutanda, the Bwindi Forest and so much more of Uganda!

The tour lasts eight days with not a single day the same. You’ll have the chance to track chimpanzees, boat alongside hippos, trek with mountain gorillas, spot leopards and enjoy breath-taking sunsets. With a mixture of habitats to explore – wetlands, lakes, savannahs and forests – each day offers a huge amount of variety in terms of both wildlife and landscapes. If you’re an animal lover who is eager to explore what East Africa has to offer then this is the tour for you.

The incredible story of the critically endangered mountain gorilla is testament to the power of conservation and, more specifically, ecotourism. Mountain gorillas are found in just three central African countries: Uganda, Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo. As a result of wars, poaching, and forest habitat loss in these countries, mountain gorilla populations sharply declined - just ten years ago their numbers were as low as 400, and the fate of these great apes looked bleak. Over the last ten years, though, there’s been a significant turnaround for mountain gorillas, with conservation efforts helping to boost numbers to over 800, as they stand today.

Ecotourism has played an important part in helping to bring Mountain Gorillas back from the brink of extinction, with the money made through gorilla tourism used to support conservation efforts. For example, funds generated through the cost of gorilla trekking permits have helped to provide funds for anti-poaching patrols, to support local communities, and to improve park infrastructure. By booking a gorilla trekking tour, travellers are able to directly contribute to the protection of mountain gorillas, whilst also experiencing one of the world’s most unique and memorable wildlife encounters! The future of mountain gorillas is intrinsically linked to ecotourism - neither can survive without the other.

Day 1

Welcome to Uganda: You’ll be met on your arrival at Entebbe International airport. Kampala is a 45-minute drive away; once you’ve arrived, you will check in to your hotel and spend the rest of the afternoon settling in.

Day 2

Wetland Wandering: Following an early breakfast, get ready for some swamp walking and wetland exploring. Head to Kibale Forest National Park in the morning, then spend the afternoon in the Bigodi wetlands looking for monkeys, bird and butterflies. You’ll spend the night at the Primates Lodge.

Day 3

Chasing Chimps: After breakfast head off to meet the Kibale Forest rangers. They’ll accompany you on a chimpanzee trekking adventure through the park, which is home to over 1,500 chimps. After this exciting morning, you’ll get some lunch then set off to the Queen Elizabeth National Park.

Day 4

The Lion King in Real Life: This is an exciting day for wildlife watching. Get up bright and early to set off on a safari drive through some of the most beautiful scenery in Africa, witnessing lions, elephants, leopards and much more along the way. After lunch it’s time to hit the water, as you’re off on a boat ride along the Kazinga Channel, looking out for hippos, crocs and buffaloes along the water’s edge.

Day 5

Look Up: Heading south towards Kisoro, you’ll drive through the Ishasha section of the Queen Elizabeth National Park. Keep your eyes skywards, as this area is popular with tree-climbing lions. Enjoy lunch near Kihihi town and then reach the lake-side lodge where you’ll spend the night. With a view of the rolling highlands and the Virunga mountain range, it really is a beautiful spot to soak up Africa’s nature.

Day 6

Getting to Know Gorillas: Get ready to get up close and personal with gorillas in the Bwindi Forest, which is home to over 400 mountain gorillas. You’ll spend the day tracking gorilla families and witnessing them in the wild, giving you the unique chance to see these rare and endangered animals in their natural habitat.

Day 7

Game On: Driving through Lake Mburo National Park offers the chance to witness all sorts of game, including zebras and antelopes. Later on in the day enjoy a boat ride along the lake itself, spotting hippos, crocs and lots of birds.

Day 8

Safari by Foot: A change from the usual driving, on this final day set off on a guided walk through the park. A walking safari really brings you closer to an array of wildlife! After checking out, take the transfer back to Entebbe and wave goodbye to the African wildlife as you catch your evening flight home.
