“Travel to Bolivia’s ruggedly beautiful wilderness and look after animals rescued from the illegal wildlife trade.”
Help give hundreds of rescued animals a second chance at life by volunteering at the Bolivia Wildlife Sanctuary. Situated in a verdant valley near the town of Coroico, about 100km from La Paz, the Bolivia Wildlife Sanctuary is one of South America’s leading centres for wildlife rescued from traffickers. Many of the animals cannot be released into the wild. Therefore, the sanctuary provides them with a safe and natural environment where they can thrive. You’ll take part in the everyday running of the sanctuary, feeding and caring for the animals, creating enrichment projects to keep them mentally and physically active, and improving the facilities. After all that hard work, you’ll get the chance to unwind by going ziplining or canyoning in the stunning Amazon rainforest!
Illegal wildlife trafficking has increased dramatically in Bolivia over the past few years. Bolivia Wildlife Sanctuary is working in collaboration with Animales SOS, an animal-welfare group caring for mistreated or abused animals, which has allowed the sanctuary to grow and care for an increased number of rescued animals. It also works with the Department of Biodiversity and the La Paz Government by welcoming animals intercepted by the government. The sanctuary provides a safe refuge for animals rescued from the hand of traffickers, thereby supporting global efforts to put an end to the illegal wildlife trade. It ensures the animals’ well-being by abiding to strict scientific and technical handling rules and techniques, and providing the animals with a natural and stimulating environment.
