“Glide through landscapes of incomparable beauty on this eco-friendly tour!”

Glide through the stunning and unique karst landscape of north and central Vietnam. Begin your adventure in the bustle of Hanoi to explore some of the hubbub of the rural area. This contrast will make your escape to stay with traditional hill tribes even more unique and magical. Move on through villages and wild landscape, stopping to rest on secluded white sand beaches, until you finally reach the ancient towns of Hue and Hoi An. Explore what the traditional side of Vietnam has to offer, before finally returning to Hanoi.

Your tour guides take sustainability very seriously. You will see this in the way they collect trash wherever possible to create a cleaner and more beautiful environment and to set a good example. Your group size will be limited to 10 so that they can effectively guide you on how best to treat the environment and your hosts. Small numbers also allow for your food to be provided locally and sustainably. Your hosts will cook for you, giving you a taste of traditional Vietnamese fare. Your money will go to local people to support a livelihood in tourism rather than more destructive industries. In return for learning about the delicious local food and the beautiful culture, the guides will encourage conversations with locals about maintaining clean, healthy environments.

You will stay with locals in homestays and guest houses run by local people. Learn about Vietnam as locals see it and feel the warmth and hospitality of the culture. Homestays work in rotation through the villages since this shares the wealth and experience throughout the whole village.

Day 1

Chao Ban! Welcome to Hanoi! Your guides will meet you at the airport and take you to the hotel for check-in. Today is some free time to rest and relax after the flight. You will have a chance to explore the city and get a feel for the bustle and beauty of Vietnam.

Day 2
Hanoi to Mai Chau

Depart from your hotel in Hanoi at 8 am. A car will take you about an hour out of the city to the beginning of your cycling adventure. You will be on quiet country roads, breathing pure clean air and enjoying spectacular scenery. How long you cycle for is up to you as the van can collect you whenever the group becomes too tired. You will stop for a lunch break halfway to Mai Chau, then continue through the afternoon, up and down hills and along the Hoa Binh lakes.

Late afternoon, you will find yourselves descending down to Mai Chau, to arrive in Poom Coom, a tribal village.

Day 3
Pu Luong Nature Reserve and homestay in Don Village

If you’re up for an early morning, you will see the bustle and hubbub of the village as they prepare for the coming day. After breakfast, you will take a short car ride out of the village before you hop back on the bikes. Cycle along the Ma riverbank and, if the weather is good, try a 10 km ride on a single track to visit some stunning, remote villages along the Ma river.

You will be welcomed into a local house for lunch and a rest before you challenge yourselves with a 12 km ride up some hills to Pu Luong nature reserve. You will certainly have the chance to break the journey short in the support van if you start to feel tired.

What goes up must come down...and this means you too! Hit the trails back downhill, riding to spectacular views of the mountains, forest, and rice paddies around you. Arrive in Don Village for dinner and overnight in a traditional homestay. You are free to explore the village in the evening and see the incredible terraced fields of Pu Luong.

Day 4
Pu Luong to Canh Nang to Lam Son

Today you will begin cycling on the Ho Chi Minh road, surrounded by scenery of Lam Son. You will have a chance to stop and choose your own lunch on the way. Arrive in Lam Son in the late afternoon. On arriving, you can check-in to the guest house and rest for the night.

Day 5
Lam Son to Thai Hoa to Do Luong

Continue the cycle along the Ho Chi Minh road to Thai Hoa, then on to Do Luong. Overnight at a guesthouse.

Day 6
Do Luong to Huong Son to Huong Khe

After breakfast, follow road 46 to Kim Lien village. Here, you can visit Ho Chi Minh’s homeland and spend a bit of time on the beach before continuing on to Huong Son. From here, move on to Huong Khe with some support from the van when you tire. Arrive in Huong Khe in the late afternoon. Check in to your guest house and enjoy a well-deserved dinner and rest.

Day 7
Huong Khe to Dong Hoi

Begin your day with a drive uphill for around an hour to reach Kheve Junction. This is the famous intersection of the Ho Chi Minh trail and Road No. 12, where east and west connect with the Truong Son Mountain Range.

You’ll have a fast stage of the ride for 25km to Pheo, followed by 20km to Da Deo mountain pass, finally crossing over the Truong Son mountain range. Here, you’ll be thrilled by the descent into Khe Gat (a former airbase) where you will stop for lunch. During the afternoon you’ll cycle to Xuan Son Bridge and keep on to Dong Hoi town.

Day 8
Dong Hoi

Today, cycle from the hotel to Phong Nha cave. Here, have a break from the bikes with a boat trip along Son River. Pass through river and forest to Phong Nha Caves (a World Nature Heritage Site). Here, discover the incredible twisting stalactites, hewn in this unique karst landscape. Wander through several of the caves, then head on to a lunch spot at a local restaurant and back to the hotel. The afternoon is free for you to relax on the beach and warm up any stiff muscles from the bike rides.

Day 9
Dong Hoi to DMZ and to Hue

Today is a relatively flat ride. Start on inland country roads through a forest of pine and eucalyptus. After lunch, it’s a fast ride on flat ground to Ben Tat Suspension Bridge. Pass by Truong Son National Cemetery. Glide on a further 20km to Cam Lo. From here, you will turn on to Highway 9 and head for Dong Ha. The van will collect you for a final 1.5-hour drive to beautiful Hue.

Day 10

Though the ground was flat, you will undoubtedly be a little tired from a long day of cycling the day before so today will be easy sightseeing around the stunning city of Hue. Learn about the historical royal kingdom here. The complex and resplendent citadel is truly a monument to the country’s past. See the intricate interiors and beautiful gardens as you cycle around the Citadel and Royal King’s Tomb. Cycle on down the perfume river to Thien Mu pagoda, and up a small road to a series of other fascinating tombs. Back in town, enjoy a little more exploring and stop to taste the delicious Hue speciality: sweet soup.

Day 11
Hue to Hoi An

Cycle out from Hue along more peaceful country roads. The first stages of today are fairly fast over Phuoc Tuong Pass. Stop for a rest and some lunch on the idyllic, white sand of Lang Co beach. Enjoy spectacular panoramas at Hai Van Pass. Continue the climb before a fast and furious (and fun!) decent to Nam O Beach. Finally, take a more relaxed ride into Hoi An via Da Nang City. Enjoy a delicious dinner as a group in Hoi An and take an evening walk around the ancient town.

Day 12
Hoi An

Leave your hotel at 8 am to cycle out into the countryside around Hoi An town. Today, you will visit Tra Que Organic Village. Walk in the gardens here and talk to the local farmers who are utilizing the land in the best and most sustainable way they can. Join in with a little of the work, then enjoy a reward by soaking your feet in a lovely herbal bath.
After this, head to the kitchen to prepare and cook some simple local and locally-sourced dishes.

At 1 pm, you will leave the family and head back to Hoi An town. Explore the charm of this graceful historic town, then head back to your hotel in the late afternoon. You will have some free time to relax. Rest or discover some hidden areas of the town on your own.

Day 13

Spend your last morning exploring the beauties of Hoi An, then take a transfer to Da Nang for your flight to Hanoi, and from there, home or on more adventures!
