"Not only is this one of the limited chances to see the Royal Bengal Tiger in natural habitat, you can give back to the wonderful country of India through tourism"

India’s national animal, the iconic Royal Bengal tiger, has been an important part of the country’s mythology and cultural heritage for centuries. Nature’s most efficient predator, the tiger is, sadly, also one of its most threatened species. However, deep in the forests at the heart of the internationally-acclaimed Bandhavgarh National Park, the tiger still burns bright. A favourite with wildlife photographers, the park featured in David Attenborough’s stunning documentary, The Hunt, in which the film crew captured rare footage of a tiger kill. Experience the wild beauty of the Indian jungle for yourself, and get the once-in-a-lifetime chance to spot these agile, powerful and captivating creatures in their natural environment on this unforgettable tour.

Start with some sightseeing in the capital city of Delhi: visit India’s largest mosque, the Rajghat (a memorial to Mahatma Gandhi) and the impressive Rajpath leading to India Gate, and enjoy the lively atmosphere at Chandni Chowk, a typical marketplace. Next, spend an extraordinary few days at Bandhavgarh National Park, where daily game drives give you a great chance of seeing tigers as well as some of the park’s other wildlife, including leopards, deer and Indian Gaur. A richly biodiverse area, the park is famed not only for its wildlife but also for its scenic natural beauty. Your journey ends with a ‘bucket-list’ visit to the Taj Mahal –a fitting finale indeed!

Active India Holidays are local operators and, as such, have seen first-hand the benefits that tourism can bring to some of India’s most remote regions. They understand that tourism often helps to alleviate poverty and develop communities and, as part of the global tourism industry, acknowledge that they too have a crucial role to play in providing commercial benefits and financial impetus in local communities. The company is conscious of both the negative and positive impacts its operations potentially have within sensitive environments and communities, particularly in the Himalayas where most of Active India’s trekking and adventure operations are conducted.

To ensure that they operate in as responsible a way as possible, Active India trains all of its tour leaders and support staff on sustainability practices. One example is their ‘Leave no Trace’ policy, which ensures that campsites and trails are left free from any waste. The company even extends this policy to include the waste left by travellers who have come before them, collecting and disposing of any extra rubbish in a safe manner. Active India hopes to contribute towards building a tourism industry that brings pleasure to travellers whilst also constructing a future for the local people and places that the industry depends on.

Day 1
Arrival in Delhi:

Arrive at Delhi’s international airport and receive a traditional ‘Swagat’ (welcome) from Active India’s representative before transferring to your hotel. The rest of the day is free!

Day 2
Delhi - Katni:

After breakfast, head out to see the sights of Delhi. Visit the busy walled city of Old Delhi and explore India’s biggest mosque, the 17th century Jama Masjid, as well as the Rajghat, which serves as a memorial to Mahatma Gandhi. Experience the hustle and bustle of Chandni Chowk, a typical Indian market alive with activity. Next, proceed to New Delhi, driving past the Presidential Palace and down the impressive Rajpath to India Gate. If there’s time, finish with a visit to Humayun’s Tomb (which is said to have been an inspiration for the Taj Mahal) and Qutub Minar, a 72.5 metre ‘Tower of Victory’. In the evening transfer to the railway station to board the overnight train to Katni.

Day 3
Katni – Bandhavgarh National Park:

Arriving in Katni in the morning, you’ll transfer to the hotel before setting out on your first game drive in the afternoon. Bandhavgarh National Park covers a total area of 964 square kilometres, and is a dedicated Tiger Reserve with a population of around 35 tigers. The park also has a large breeding population of leopards and many species of deer.

Day 4-6

Each day you’ll go on one morning game drive for a chance to spot iconic Bengal Tigers as well as a huge variety of other flora and fauna. After lunch you’ll head out for your second game drive into the national park for yet more fantastic wildlife-watching!

Day 7
Bandhavgarh – Agra:

Enjoy your final exhilarating game drive in the park, before taking an afternoon transfer to the railway station at Katni. Here, you’ll board the overnight train to Agra – a memorable experience in itself!

Day 8

Upon your arrival in Agra in the morning, transfer to your hotel and relax for a while. Take a ‘bucket-list’ trip to see the incredible Taj Mahal - this magnificent white-marble monument symbolises the eternal love of the 5th Mughal Emperor, Shah Jahan, for his beloved wife Mumtaz Mahal, who died in the 16th century BCE. A visit to this ‘New7Wonder of the World’ never fails to leave a visitor totally captivated. Continue to Agra Fort, which blends Rajput and Mughal influences in its architecture and can be more accurately described as a walled palatial city. Finally, wander through Agra’s bustling bazaar in the evening.

Day 9
Agra – Delhi:

After breakfast proceed to your final destination: Delhi. Check in to your hotel and do some last-minute shopping in the local bazaars before taking an evening transfer to the airport for your onward flight.
