Wildlife photography tours: Editor’s pick
Three of my favourite wildlife photography tours.
Wildlife photography tours come in all shapes and sizes, whether they’re guided or simply stunning tours and locations where a camera is a must. I’ve picked out three I think fit the bill. We’ve recently been skilling up on our wildlife photography skills with the aid of professional photographer Aaron Northcott. He recently shared a great video of his wildlife photography essential equipment which is a great introduction into all the bits of kit required to have a great day out. If these wildlife photography tours seem like something you’d enjoy then check out his series, it’s essential viewing for all budding amateurs.
So on with the wildlife photography tours. I’ve picked three of my favourites that will cater for most tastes. Eco-Friendly of course, these tours and locations are world renowned spots to photograph some of the most stunning wildlife on our amazing planet. Starting in Mexico with the flamingoes, heading east to Gambia and then back to Canada to witness the polar bear migration. I don’t think they’ll disappoint. I’m sure you’ll let me know if they do!
Wildlife photography tour of Mexico
Set across Mexico’s stunning Yucatan peninsula this structured wildlife photography tour takes you from jungles to reefs in search of the perfect shot. To be honest this part of Mexico is teeming with amazing wildlife and scenery so you won’t have to wait long to see something spectacular. As well as the opportunity for underwater photography and the contrast of the jungle animals you’ll also head to Sian Ka’an where you can photograph the native flamingos. Their vibrant colour are spectacular and make for some stunning photographs.
We love this tour as you’ll be part of a small group in the hands of a professional photography guide who’ll take you to the best spots the region has to offer.

Footsteps Eco-Lodge Gambia
With over 500 species of bird on your doorstep, not to mention the odd hippo. Foosteps eco-lodge is a great base for budding wildlife photographers. The lodge consists of nine roundhouses as well as two family cabins all arranged around a central pool and dinning area. Bordering the bush and the beach Footsteps is an ideal place to relax and let nature come to you or for the more active set off and explore the local area, soak up the vibrant West African culture and embrace a Gambian lifestyle.

Polar Bear Migration Fly-in Photo Safari
This is one of our most spectacular wildlife photography tours, but don’t forget your thermals! You’ll get the rare opportunity to walk with polar bears and take stunning photos. The opportunity to see one of natures most magnificent creatures in their natural habitat is not something many amateur or professional photographers pass up. Your base is situated on the remote Arctic tundra of Nunavut, 140 km north of Churchill, Manitoba, where the professional guides will get you as close as possible whilst ensuring your safety at all times.
Accommodation consists of four guest cabins and a central dining/lounge kitchen affording a panoramic view across the tundra. The Polar Bear Cabin complex allows for a maximum of 8 guests, creating a very private and intimate polar bear viewing experience.
Take part in the once in a lifetime Polar Bear Migration Fly-in Photo Safari
So that’s my pick of wildlife photography tours, something to suit everyone I hope and definitely some once in a lifetime experiences.
