Three of the Best Volunteering Projects in Costa Rica
We pick three of the best volunteering projects in Costa Rica this week. There’s something for everyone in our selection, whether it’s big cats, turtles or the amazing beaches and jungles.
So this was hard! Picking the best volunteering projects in Costa Rica is no easy task when there is simply so much to choose from. Wildlife, beaches, jungles, oceans, Costa Rica rightly deserves it’s unofficial title as the World capital of eco-tourism. Volunteering holidays in Costa Rica offer hands-on access to a diverse ecosystem of wildlife and nature so it’s not surprising that they feature highly on most intrepid traveller’s bucket list. Whether you want to spend your time deep in the jungle surveying exotic birds or whale watching the pods of humpbacks that migrate to the warm tropical waters.
First up on our list is
Big cats, primates and Turtle conservation
This truly is one of the best volunteering projects in Costa Rica, packing so much into 7 days you’ll wonder where the time has gone. Staying on the small Osa Peninsula, home to five of Costa Rica’s six species of wild cat, you’ll help to protect a variety of threatened species from tiny turtles to elusive Pumas. There’s a lot of work to do on this programme but that doesn’t mean there’s no time to relax. Why not go horseback riding on the beach, dolphin and whale watching or for the thrill seekers white water rafting. No other project crams in as much across such a diverse ecosystem as this one, we can absolutely guarantee it.

In search of whales and turtles
Every year a pod of Antarctic Humpback whales migrates to the coast of Costa Rica and for good reason. The mothers give birth to their calves off the shores of Dominical Beach. This is one of the best places to see whales and their calves in their natural habitat, oh and the scenery and beautiful beaches are pretty good too. You might be thinking where do the turtles come into the equation? Well, the beaches of Costa Rica are spawning grounds for four different species of turtle that call the golden sands of Costa Rica home. This tour provides you with ample opportunity to see both of these amazing species and it definitely ranks as one of the best volunteering projects in Costa Rica to get up close to some amazing ocean wildlife.
