Blue planet 2, Eco companions top 13 marine animals.
We’re taking huge inspiration from Blue planet 2 in this week’s blog, here’s our top 13 marine animals.
Blue planet 2, Sir David, you’ve done it again! Following the success of Planet Earth II, we are treated to yet another documentary sequel as the iconic Blue Planet returns to our screens. With two thirds of our planet’s surface covered by water and ocean trenches that are miles deep, it literally is another world out there. With such vast areas of open water, its flora and fauna are incomparable with that of the terrestrial world – that being said; here are Eco Companion’s top 13 marine animals:
Found him! Well that was easier than I thought. These quirky anemone hugging tropical tangerines may not be constantly fitting into tiny cars, but they are a lot friendlier than the Pennywise fish.
The unicorns of the sea, these magical arctic mammals must be great at hoopla, or medieval jousting re-enactments. Imagine a Narwhal at a buffet, it could grab everyone with its massive cocktail stick!
Is there a weirder looking creature in all of the oceans? Probably somewhere, but let’s not neglect how utterly breath-taking and peculiar this two-dimensional monster is.
10. Giant Devil Ray
Giant? Yes, as they can grow over 20 feet in length and 16 feet in width. Devil? Well they aren’t red and don’t carry a pitchfork so maybe not. Generally awesome nonetheless.
9. Goblin Shark
WHAT IS THAT? Is that real? It looks like a cheap prop from a budget film. The single most terrifying thing you could ever swim into, just not quite good looking enough for Jaws.
8. Pacific Walrus
The combination of a seal with an elephant, which would logically make an elephant seal but who cares. These enormous whiskered sacks of meat are lethargic and lethal, yet ever-so charismatic.
7. Bloodybelly Comb Jelly
Talk about a party animal, these funky ctenophores possess bioluminescent disco lights and are the masters of deep sea raves. Who needs glow sticks when you have these guys?
6. Red Lionfish
The most common pub name, if there were pubs in the sea. With regal stripes and an impressive mane, these fish are lovely to look at; just at a distance, as those spines pack a venomous punch.
5. Common Cuttlefish
Undoubtedly one of the most incredible creatures in our oceans, they can not only change colour but can also mould their shape to mimic other animals. They are more than just parrot fodder!
Draped in black and white, the ocean’s pandas are immense predatory machines. Set to be one of the stars of Blue Planet 2 these magnificent ocean predators are truly amazing.
3. Great White Shark
So amazing, they had to put ‘great’ in the name. The celebrity of the seas, these movie stars make all the headlines and get all the attention (I bet tiger sharks must always be jealous).
2. Bottlenose Dolphin
Universally recognised, these are true icons of the underwater world. They are sleek, acrobatic and intelligent – as well as being countless millennial’s spirit animal.
1. Blue Whale
A heart the size of a car, tail fins wider than a light aircraft and veins so wide that a child could swim through them. The biggest animal to have ever lived on our planet; epic simply does not cut it.
So there was our list, let us know what your favourite marine animal is and remember to watch Blue Planet 2 we know it’ll be amazing!
