Adventures in Costa Rica
This week I’m sharing my adventures in Costa Rica. Travelling is such a personal thing for those of us looking for experiences beyond a holiday. These are my top three destinations, where you can make the most of this amazing country.
So, you’ve decided you your want next adventure in Costa Rica. You want to see and do as much as you can in this ecologically diverse country. But, with so much choice, it can be difficult to narrow it down. Don’t panic, Eco Companion‘s got your back! Us awesome lot have devised just as awesome a list of activities and sites to see in 3 must see destinations.
This small town has a big celebrity, the towering Arenal Volcano, which can be seen from all over the town. There’s so much to do in La Fortuna, plenty of sightseeing and physical activities, like hiking, swimming, and obviously viewing the mighty volcano! It’s also a great place to relax, as the town is famous for their numerous hot springs and Tabacon River, naturally heated and sourced by the volcano and its minerals.
One of the best tours I did here was the Arenal Volcano and Hot Springs tour with an operator called Arenal Jungle Tours. It’s a fully packed day, where you’ll first be able to see the stunning Arenal Volcano from the observatory, and then hike through the national park, spotting howler and capuchin monkeys, various snakes, frogs and birds. You’ll even be able to swim behind a waterfall. At the end of the day, you’ll be able to view most beautiful sunset, softly illuminating Lake Arenal and the volcano, it’s a site you don’t want to miss and one you’ll remember for years to come. My favourite part of the tour ended with the group heading to the Tabacon River, drinking homemade Costa Rican rum, putting mud masks onto each other, all while receiving a free massage from the river itself – the perfect way to end an energetic day. Of course, there are plenty of other tours and activities available, but if you only have a day or two here, this is a great option.
Calling all adrenaline junkies, Monteverde is not only home to the famous Cloud Forest, but also houses the tallest bungee jump in all South America. Standing at 400 feet, only the bravest – or craziest – will be able to master this feat! But before that, how about enjoying the impressive views the forest has to offer by a less conventional method, zip lining! Zip lining can be enjoyed by all, as you are constantly with several tour guides, ensuring you are properly strapped in, and comforting those who are a little wary. If you’re feeling braver, try out the gut-flipping Tarzan swing and superman style zip line! Once you’ve mastered those, it’s time to tackle the mammoth task of the bungee jump! It’s honestly one of the best activities I’ve done, and I think I’m hooked, check out the video on our Facebook page and follow us for more of the same!
After all those adventurous undertakings in La Fortuna and Monteverde, it’s time to unwind in Manuel Antonio. Where rainforest meets the beach, it’s another example of nature’s wonder, something that Costa Rica isn’t short of. Seek out capuchin monkeys, sloths and iguanas in Manuel Antonio National Park, and once you’re tired of hiking, relax in the Playa Manuel Anotnio – although be warned, those capuchin monkeys may be cute, but they are cheeky as hell and will try and steal your bags looking for food, so try to either cover your belongings with your towel, or even bury it like I did! If you’re still looking for some intrepid adventure, the waves at Manuel Antonio are “totally gnarly dude” so a perfect spot for surfing. If you want a different perspective of the area, fly like a toucan and try your hand at para sailing. At the end of the day relax in sun, while sipping on a coconut, or even get a massage right on the beach from one of the many vendors. Oh, and you’ve got to try the seafood, I may or may not have had lobster for all three nights I was there…
So, there you have it, you’ve not needed to do any work at all, go and enjoy all that Costa Rica has to offer! We’ll even take more work off you, and suggest a tour that would fit perfectly with these activities, because we’re good like that here, always looking after our readers and clients 😉 Check out
It’s got everything and more for anyone looking for adventures in Costa Rica.
