Holiday adventure in Tortuguero.
This week I’m taking you on an adventure in Tortuguero, one of Costa Rica’s most famous national parks.
Costa Rica is made for Eco Travel and a holiday adventure in Tortuguero is certainly one of the highlights. The Tortuguero National Park is home to an abundance of wildlife and it’s definitely one of the best places to see Costa Rica at it’s most biodiverse. The park itself sits on Costa Rica’s northern Caribbean coast where it’s famous beaches are home to sea turtle nesting grounds including the endangered green turtle.
The park’s biodiversity can be seen across the 11 different habitats present including rainforest, mangrove forests, swamps, beaches, and lagoons. These habitats support a huge amount of wildlife from the aforementioned turtles to jaguars, three-toed sloths, three of Costa Rica’s four species of monkey: Geoffroy’s spider monkey, the mantled howler, and the white-headed capuchin. Basilisk lizards and poisonous frogs also live the area, along with 375 species of birds, including kingfishers, toucans, blue herons, peacocks, and parrots. Read more here.
As usual I’ve picked three of my favourite tours that take you into the park so you can have your own adventure in Tortuguero!
Your trip starts in San Jose busting city of colour and a great place to explore before heading north to La Fortuna where your adventure in Tortuguero begins. You enter the park by boat traversing the inland waterways as you meander through the lush jungle. Take your camera are some amazing photo ops here, the main problem you’ll have is too much wildlife to see. Your trip then takes you to the beach town of Cahuita when you can chill and enjoy some traditional Costa Rican hospitality.

Costa Rica at your own pace
If your looking for a more relaxed way to see some of the best sights Costa Rica has to offer then this is for you. Your trip starts in San Jose before heading to Tortuguero where you’ll spend the next two days in the park. These two days are pretty packed as you explore the park by foot and boat, but it’s worth it as you’ll see some amazing wildlife. After that it’s over to you. Once you’ve picked up your jeep you’ve got a full 10 days to explore Costa Rica at your own pace. You might decide to continue the adventure in Tortuguero or head further afield and explore more of this spectacular country. Whatever your passion you’ll find pristine beaches and tropical rainforest at every turn.

Costa Rica encompassed
This is a great trip for anyone looking to go coast to coast in Costa Rica, your adventure in Tortuguero comes a little later on after you’ve visited San Jose and travelled west to the Manuel Antonio National Park (equally stunning, we’ll tell you more in a later post). You also get to visit St Elena and the Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve where you can explore the canopy by zip wire before moving on to La Fortuna. From here we recommend you take a trip out to see the Arenal volcano, it has recently stopped erupting and it’s one of the areas main attractions. Then your adventure in Tortuguero begins. If you’re keen to see the turtles then time your trip between July and October and you’ll be sure to catch a glimpse on their beach nesting grounds.
