"Right on the front of the Tanzanian Coast, this is your chance to discover true African Wildlife in the Saadani National Park. True African Nature at it's finest!"
Listen. Can you hear the crickets chirruping in the bush, and the ocean gently lapping the shore? Can you hear the palm leaves rustling, lifted by the cool sea breeze? Look. Can you see the colourful birds and butterflies, weaving and whirling through the tropical bush? These are just some of the sights and sounds you’ll experience in your very own slice of paradise. Situated on northern Tanzania’s stunning coast, Tembo Kijani Ecolodge gives you the chance to discover the country’s breath-taking natural beauty, without cutting back on comfort. The beachfront lodge is located on the northern fringes of the Saadani National Park, which is home to four of Africa’s iconic Big Five.
Tembo Kijani Ecolodge offers two contrasting, but equally special, styles of accommodation: bed down in an elevated Bush Banda, for a treetop ‘Tarzan’ experience, or get a little nearer to the beach and the glimmering Indian Ocean with a stay in a spacious Beach Bungalow. With the lodge as your base, you can venture into Saadani National Park on a classic safari in search of elephants, lion, and giraffe (to name but a few!), or go on an exciting Walking Safari to discover the local culture and explore the surrounding area’s diverse ecosystems. At the end of each day, return to the lodge to watch the sun set from the comfort of your private veranda.
Tembo Kijani Ecolodge adopts a holistic approach when it comes to the environment, focusing on several different ‘strands’ of sustainability. The building materials used during the lodge’s construction were locally-sourced, helping to reduce carbon emissions from transporting materials, and traditional techniques have been used to create a truly ecological finish; dried coconut leaves are used to create ‘Makuti’ roofs, and waste from commercial sisal plant farms is also integrated into the building’s design. Not only does this help the lodge to blend in with its natural surrounds with minimal impact on the environment, but it also encourages air-flow!
Water is a valuable resource that the lodge is careful to manage correctly - waste-water is used to keep the surrounding bush lush and healthy during the dry season, and rainwater is filtered for drinking using a ceramic filter. In terms of sustainable energy, the lodge harnesses the power of the sun and the wind all-year round, and also encourages its staff and guests to be save energy. Finally, to spread the benefits brought to them through ecotourism, Tembo Kijani strives to support the local villages by using locally-sourced suppliers and employing local staff from the surrounding villages. By investing in communities in this way, the lodge gives local people the opportunity to learn a tourism-related profession, receive a regular income, and enjoy social benefits they might otherwise have missed out on.
