"The Wild West is much closer to home than you'd think!"
Cornwall may very well be the last place on earth you’d expect to find a relic of the Wild West, but a stay at West Kellow Yurts might just surprise you! Standing in the middle of a beautiful organic farm, near the picturesque fishing village of Polperro, is the Blue Jay Wagon. Measuring four-by-two metres, this classic ‘Cowboy Wagon’ boasts a double-bed with a sea view, as well as an outdoor campfire area for those evening singalongs; you’ll be transported to the old American West without setting foot on a plane - or a time-machine!
The wagon is just one property on the West Kellow Yurts campsite, which also consists of several yurts (circular tent-like structures). The whole site sits amongst nine-acres of field and organic farmland - a stay here is the perfect chance to escape from the daily grind of 21st century life, and to get ‘back to nature’ on the farm! Use the wagon as a base from which to explore the area; walk into Polperro for a taste of life in a quaint Cornish fishing village, or discover some of the wonderful secret beaches and coves nearby. At the end of the day, return to your wagon for a hearty meal around the crackling campfire. It truly is the stuff of western legend!
A stay at West Kellow Yurts offers guests the chance to 'reconnect' with nature, in a low-impact and eco-friendly way. When developing the campsite, the idea was to have little to no impact on the natural environment, whilst also saving money, proving that eco-friendly doesn't necessarily mean expensive! The site's power comes from solar panels, which take up one quarter of an acre of space in one of the farm's fields. Water comes from a natural spring, whilst wood for log-burners comes from trees that have been felled on the farm by nature, rather than by humans! At West Kellow Yurts, nature truly is the great provider.
West Kellow Yurts’ properties themselves are also natural, eco-friendly structures - as well as the Blue Jay Wagon, the site also has a number of yurts. These tent-like structures have a circular shape that is both attractive and practical, allowing for greater heat circulation and more efficient heat retention. The yurts and the wagon are made out of naturally-occurring and biodegradable materials like wood, canvas and felt - 100 years from now, they’ll have left no trace! Finally, both the wagon and the yurts are impermanent, and can be easily dismantled if necessary. This means that there is a minimal impact on the surrounding natural environment.
