The detail

Calling all adventurers, thrill-seekers, and free-spirited explorers! Go somewhere and try something new, experiencing the adrenaline-pumping thrill of white-water rafting in stunningly beautiful Montenegro. Not even 300 kilometres long, this tiny country makes up for its diminutive size with wow-factor in abundance, packing in a huge range of cultural influences, diverse landscapes and must-see natural wonders. This four-night adventure takes place in Montenegro’s wild and rugged north, giving you a taste of some of the country’s best natural highlights including snow-capped mountains, raging glacial rivers, lush green forests and dramatic canyons. North Montenegro’s natural beauty will leave you breathless at every turn.

Montenegro’s stunning Tara Canyon is Europe’s answer to the Grand Canyon, and is the deepest on the continent. Between May and September, the fast-flowing waters of the Tara River transform the area into a natural adventure playground, and a white-water rafting hotspot. With a whole day spent out on the water, you’ll create memories to last a lifetime! As well as adrenaline-pumping rafting, you’ll also get ample time to explore Durmitor National Park’s tranquil mountain lakes, wander through quaint villages, and visit the UNESCO listed town of Kotor. This wild, wet and wonderful adventure is suitable for all ages - from the very young, to the young at heart!

Although Montenegro is a relatively tiny country, it boasts a wealth of natural wonders. Around 10% of the country is made up of designated national park areas, including the stunning Durmitor National Park, which is a UNESCO Natural World Heritage site. As well as visiting Durmitor National Park, travellers also get the chance to visit Montenegro’s second UNESCO listed site – the city of Kotor. When visiting Kotor, travellers are accompanied by a bilingual host who grew up in the city, allowing tourists to gain an authentic insight into life in this amazing place.

This White Water Rafting Experience gives travellers the chance to stay in typical guesthouses owned and run by local people. This means that tourists get a more insightful and immersive experience of the area they are visiting, and also provides local communities with a valuable source of income and jobs, helping to bolster rural economies. The white water rafting itself is organised and run by a family that has lived by the river (and lived off the river) for generations. ‘Keeping it in the family’, travellers stay with the family’s relatives in a nearby ethno village, and also spend time at an ‘eco village’. This collection of traditional shepherd summer dwellings are built in an age-old style – their only 21st century feature is electricity, which is generated using ‘green’ solar energy!
