Wheatland Farm Eco Lodges has two main goals: to farm the land that surrounds their lodges for wildlife, and to offer high-quality holidays with a low-carbon footprint. The company aims to educate people about environmental good practice whilst also giving them the chance to access wildlife, and to ‘re-connect’ with nature.
It’s sustainability, done simply.
As Wheatland Farm’s award-winning flagship project, Balebarn Eco Lodge has these company goals interwoven through every aspect of the building’s design: the cushions are made from old silk ties, and the lodge is kept warm and cosy using natural straw bale insulation. Plus, the carbon rating is through the floor, proving that you can enjoy a comfortable holiday in nature without leaving a big environmental footprint!
Balebarn helped Wheatland Farm Eco Lodges to win ‘Gold’ in the 2015 Visit England Tourism Awards. Here’s what the judges had to say:
‘[Balebarn] further adds to the existing all-embracing experience offered by Wheatland which helps people to re-connect with nature and the simple pleasures of life – without having to be “wacky green”.‘
As the judges pointed out, Balebarn Eco Lodge proves that an eco-holiday can be for everyone. Maybe you’ve never considered eco-travel before (‘I just want a normal holiday!’), or perhaps you’re keen to dip your toe into the world of ecotourism or learn more about sustainability. You might even be a seasoned environmentalist – whichever shade of green you are, Balebarn offers an eco-experience to suit.
And, if you’re not already of the ‘wacky green’ variety, over the course of your stay at Balebarn you might just discover that there’s a better life to be lead through sustainability!
